Petito family's lawyer confirms body found in Wyoming has been identified as Gabby Petito

Natalie Musumeci

Excerpt:

The Teton County Coroner's Office performed an autopsy on the body Tuesday.

The attorney for Petito's family, Richard Stafford, told Insider in a text message that the remains — found near the border of Grand Teton National Park — belonged to Petito.

The results of the autopsy have not yet been released by the FBI or the Teton County Coroner's Office.

Earlier on Tuesday, Stafford said the family would not be releasing a statement until "Gabby is home."

I'm very sorry for this and all families who have had missing and murdered children.

Is this something someone did in memory? Or do they think the BFF did it?

I’ve missed something here.

He killed her but perhaps didn't really mean to and he freaked out, tried to hide the body and went home to parents and immediately lawyered up. The parents in this situation would understandably help the son as the kid could say Gabby ran in front of the van as he was driving it. Who knows but he is still guilty of ton of stuff. Hopefully all the facts come out soon and justice is served.

His parents must be idiots or assholes not to have told him just to give himself up.

On the other hand, maybe they financed a trip out of the country for baby boy Brian. Surely the authorities are looking into their finances and so on…

The FBI is asking anyone who was in the Spread Creek Dispersed Camping Area between Aug 27 and Aug 30 who may have had contact with Gabby Petito or Brian Laundrie or who may have seen their van to call 1-800-CALL-FBI. Photos can be uploaded here:

I guess they are waiting to have enough evidence to make sure they have a solid case. But its infuriating that this asshole is still just a "person of interest" and is technically free to come and go as he pleases.
