Kicked in the ribs. Harassed At Vaccine Sites. Health Care Workers Are Tired Of New 'Normal'

Snip< “There's not a week that goes by that we do not hear about an instance in which a patient or family member was verbally or physically aggressive with staff,” she said.

Snip< “Our health care workers, they're already working extremely hard, day-in and day-out, to take care of those that need it most,” Reed said. “So dealing with a violent or aggressive patient just increases that stress level even more.”

They don't do that anymore.

My security guy, 6'5" from head to toe and shoulder to shoulder, only has to stand up, and people start behaving themselves pretty quickly...

but these incidents seemed to have been mostly arising from mental illness or substance abuse. When you are dealing with very stressed people with those underlying conditions I guess it's not surprising that they might lash out sometimes. These days, though, there is so much fundamental assholery and social permission for performative violence by people with short fuses (because they're assholes), all you have to do is throw in a disease that they don't think is real and a request that they acknowledge that it is real, and the assholes show their true colors by attacking the people who are trying to help them. Schizophrenia or drug abuse might be an excuse but being an asshole isn't.

For those of us who aren't health care workers, all we can do is hunker down with our vaccinations and our masks and our isolation and wait for the assholes to die off from their own stupidity, but that sure doesn't help the folks who have to deal with them every day.

Personally I wouldn’t attack a buff mountain climber, but here we are. He’s ready to quit, and he was a military medic.

Not only are these selfish fucks taking up precious beds for non covid related sicknesses and illnesses, their families are just as violent and taking it out on the wrong people. Honestly I would love love love to see a policy saying if your family member harasses or attacks a medical personal. You will not be treated and will be sent home to die. There needs to be extremely harsh penalties for this shit.
