I have decided that economic time travel for average people in my lifetime will never be possible because I am declaring right now that I would have stopped myself from making this post if it was.
But that got me to thinking about just how we got to this point in time that things are so insanely crazy. It feels like as we move forward the insanity keeps creeping up more and more. Almost like someone keeps trying to course change the inevitable by coming back and injecting more insanity. Like at some point in the future someone decided that they didnt like the course that the world followed so they went back and changed things. At first it seemed normal to some. Although I am not sure how we decided to accept that the people with the most should be trusted by those with the least to do what is in their best interest out of some never seen altruistic drive. Vut when I think of the shit we have just been ok with over the last 40 years and the constant fight the educated good people in this world have had to endure nothing seems to make sense at all. I have to believe there is something else at play other than people are just awful. It doesnt make sense that in a world where most living things find a way to live harmoniously or at least in cycles that strengthen natures systems, that humans wouldnt also follow those systems. Or perhaps we are? Maybe we need the crazy to scale back our numbers so that we have less of an impact on our world and natures systems.
After reading the deer thread (where it is stated that deer need to be hunted to keep populations in check) perhaps there are those time travelers there to push us to limit our growth.
Perhaps they are our deer hunters.

(4,339 posts)Of course, change is inevitable, but those at the top of the pyramid, having attained that position, found the way(s) to maintain their position and don't ever intend to feel the pain of great loss of power and financial superiority; it courses through the human messages that reach their brain where they thwart, refocus, distract, deny the facts, science, rule of law that flaunts the intent of that which all of us learn through the messages of roller coaster change - fear/cortisol versus dopamine's high?

(38,264 posts)That means I'm just an incredible fuck-up or that the best of all possible worlds theorem is true.
The world where the U.S.A. sided with the Nazis to fight Communism is especially unpleasant, even worse than those sparsely populated global nuclear war worlds.
In some of my time travels I've literally beaten myself up. I can be quite unreasonable at times.

Maybe we're just lab rats being subjected some psychological torture
by some over-powerful BF Skinner -type being - some entity that looks at us
like we look at bugs.

(12,364 posts)Two people will readily elect to do something really stupid that neither one would attempt alone.
And at least 10% of people are awful all by themselves. If you could identify and remove them from society, all at once, and put them on an island somewhere, there would be another 10% who would take their place. Of the people on that island, maybe close to 90% would straighten up after a while. Awfulness is a niche that abhors a vacuum.
