She cited the 16-2 vote against by the FDA advisory panel. This is what inconsistent messaging gets you. I know it doesn't make sense but I wasn't going to argue with her. She was moderna vaxxed so it's not an issue yet. My dad is all for the third shot. If and when it's approved maybe he can convince her.

(25,848 posts)Unless she's planning to attend events where a lot of unvaxxed will be there without masks. The fall-off in protection is simply not as scary as advertized.
Plus, and very much to the point, the rest of the world absolutely needs to be able to get their first, and then their second shots. Yeah, really, they do.

(12,620 posts)having caused these virus mutations, and just vaccine weariness. Like is this going to go on forever? I dont want to stand on line in a pharmacy. I want to just stay home.

(165 posts)despite my suggestion she wait until her PCP scheduled it. She usually listens to me, but yes, inconsistent information can be confusing. She just went ahead and signed up for the third shot at the local pharmacy.
Pfizer. I read somewhere today that it is recc'ed for over 65, but still.
I could pull her internet plug Whatcha think?

(2,674 posts)I am an 82 year old Grandma and I got my booster last week. So thankful.
My 78 year-old sister-in-law, who had all her shots, got a break-through case of Covid-19 in July and it killed her. My 84 year old husband was heart-broken to lose his "baby" sister. I made sure he got his booster shot too. I want to keep my "old boy" around as long as possible.

(3,490 posts)Theyve both had covid last year, my dad nearly died and they both are double vaxxed but for some reason theyre hesitant to get the booster. My guess is the constant naysaying by Fox but Im always countering the bullshit when I go over for Sunday dinner. I plead with them to turn the brain poison off but apparently its highly addictive. I put the parental controls on those channels once as a joke and my dad was really mad. It was pretty funny actually but frustrating and a little scary at the same time. That shit really has a hold on their audience.
My mom is more reasonable, she voted for Biden and is more open to alternate viewpoints. In the end Ill get them both to do it. Having had the virus tempers the anti-mask, anti-vax nonsense pretty well. It just bothers me that I have to remind them of that as a reality check when the bullshit starts getting deep.
Its hard raising boomer parents these days.

(13,491 posts)of Covid and vaccine is great protection. They should be okay until you move the needle. (literally and figuratively. lol.)
I might wait a bit to get the booster too if I were in their situation.

(13,491 posts)My 78 year old mother is feeling the same way. She wants to "wait and see." Though she did say she'd more than likely get it in January, a year after her first shot. "As long as everything goes well."
They also dropped the ball re: health care workers and educators. They should have been in this booster grouping. I guess they can claim to be smokers if they want the shot bad enough.
This is where I am going to be critical of the messaging here. The Biden Admin and the CDC really did a disservice to everyone by jumping the gun and announcing boosters earlier than approval.
We need strong and well thought out messaging. (And an exit plan for masking in states that are mandating it. Like a percentage of people vaccinated, that community can safely unmask.)
I know people are worried about breakthrough cases, but those will slow down and subside once a community reaches 85% vaccination.
We are having a messaging crisis right now. Boosters etc.

(1,285 posts)and very healthy. She has no comorbitities and is not immune compromised. She got her booster two weeks ago (Moderna) because she is not stupid. Her internist recommended she get it.

Raftergirl
(1,285 posts)that is what she got. She went to one CVS that only had Pfizer so they told her to go to another CVS that had Moderna.
This was two weeks ago, so before the ruling by FDA.
