I always find it amusing (and a bit condescending) to read the suggestions from non-Texans as to whom we should nominate for political offices. We can figure things out by ourselves.

Abbot is going to win. Beto +/- is lower than Abbot's also he talked about banning assault rifles when he ran for president. While that's a good idea and there is no civilized nation that believes average citizens should have access to weapons of war people in Texas value guns more than anything else including their loved ones dying of Covid.

Texas is not going to be blue anytime soon we should disregard that fantasy.

And before you mentioned the republican suburban women in Dallas and Houston remember they voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020. If Trump didn't get them to turn their backs on Republicans nothing will

Howard's mantra was run in every district and every state. I support that. Abbott's vulnerable. Even if he isn't, not putting our best candidate out front is reckless. You have to have a top of the ticket. Failing to do so hurts turn out in those flippable districts.

I've been telling them for years they need to nominate Jack Lord for governor, not for policy reasons, but because I think he'd look awesome in the governor's traditional grass skirt and coconut bra. Turns out he's dead now, but my advice doesn't change.

They want him to run even if he may not win. His political machine would bring out the voters needed for those lower races.

And yes, McConaughey is very popular and would be more likely to defeat Abbott but he’s still keeping everybody guessing. If he ran as a Democrat he would probably have no trouble whipping up a massive machine as well.

However, that isn't enough to win the state. Beto has shown that he can be a huge fundraiser and that will be necessary since Abbott already has $70 million in campaign funds. I also believe that Beto can handle Abbott in a one-on-one debate and roll with the punches during a campaign better than Castro can. Castro did demonstrate that he knows how to launch an attack on his competitors during the presidential debates in 2019 and 2020, but he wasn't as capable at defending his own positions.

I don't see it happening. Frankly, I'm a little skeptical of Beto running for Governor. This would be his 3rd loss in 4 years. Career suicide. His next run needs to be against Cruz in 2024.

Someone will step forward. The chief executive of Dallas County, Judge Clay Jenkins, would be the perfect candidate. Google him and you'll see a leader in the making.

You know what he did when he had a Republican opponent last year?

He stood on a street corner with Tom Perez...(Remember him? DNC Chair)

Castro had some signs..(Just enough for polling sites etc) Castro's opponent had signs all over the city.

I don't remember if I got a mailer from Joaquin, but I know I got at least one from his opponent.

Castro is in a safe district

I thought it was hilarious that he stood on a street corner with Tom Perez...

Not everyone is a glad hander.

It's interesting, but putting Castro in a solid safe district is a critical strategy for the Republicans for dominating the Texas delegation to Congress. They essentially want to have a racial division of the state by party.

Nice guy, but probably not the best campaigner.

I kinda think Castro put himself in that district LOL

He resides in what was CD 23, but he was in the Texas House in 2011 when they did redistricting. Charlie Gonzalez was retiring, so it was an open seat. The district is not as packed as it used to be because Joaquin lives in a sorta suburban area.

I was certainly was glad to no longer be in Canseco's and Bonilla's district....

God Bonilla drove me crazy for 15 years!
And Canseco was a one-term monster.

If he runs as a Democrat and gets the nomination, I'll support him 100%. But I don't know jack shit about his politics. If he runs as an independent, he'll guarantee a Republican victory. We did this dance with Kinky Friedman 20 years ago.
