it was nice while it lasted, but the masks have vanished...

I just got back from grocery shopping at a small Ingles near our home. Up until last week, mask compliance there was quite good ( this is a reddish, not blood red but not purple) area of NC.

My wife and I still mask ( we are of course both vaxxed).

Anyway, today was pretty demoralizing at the store. Of the employees, 15 percent masked. Shoppers, 10 percent or less.

We are clearly at the denial, or inconvenience, phase of the pandemic. Sad

It’s strange to see maskless people unless they are outdoors in an open area.

Like you even though I am vaccinated I plan on wearing masking for the foreseeable future.

Same here, I'm also in NC, Union County.

The Food Lion was almost completely void of masks, including the employees.

A few stores now have signs stating NO MASKS ALLOWED, ONLY ROBBERS WEAR MASKS!

Needless to say, but those places don't get my money.

also, he cites an example of his lack of critical thinking skills:

"He attributed the fact that the store hasn't been robbed recently to the new face mask policy"

yet it is previously stated:

Over the past two years, police reports show just one robbery at the story. A mannequin was stolen on July 28.

All employees & 95% customers masked.

Around KC, seems like 70-90% employees and about the same among customers.

Out in the rural towns in KS & MO, 20% employees and maybe 10% of customers wear masks.

a lot of retail stores started a policy that vaccinated employees don't have to wear masks. I know Costco did that here. While scientifically that may not be wise, it is an incentive for some to get vaccinated. I know it's been the policy at our local hospital for may years regarding flu shots. It pretty much shakes things down to the people who really do have genuine medical or religious reasons to not vaccinate. Not sure if it does the same with the Covid vaccination, but it probably helps.

Still see a lot of masked shoppers. Including myself and Cinderfella. Our hospitalizations are going down although there are still high numbers being diagnosed. Just not as sick, I guess, maybe breakthrough cases? Our plan is to continue using masks for a while longer. No end date in sight. We will get our booster at some point soon. (Moderna) I think a lot of people believe the worst is over even though we’ve been warned that numbers might rise with the cooler fall weather. We do not subscribe to that theory. Just got a new box of masks a few weeks ago. And we limit where we go.

Wearing a mask is no big deal — really. I don’t understand why there has been so much angst over it. (I get that it has been politicized.) I feel bad for kids in schools with unvaccinated teachers and staff and masks being optional. It’s madness in my opinion.

me and my family, regardless of what others do or think. I cannot control what others do but it does make me sad that so many people (the majority in my Central Texas area) just don't care. I think it is a sign that our society is becoming more and more selfish.

I blame a lot of it on religion. “When you believe in eternal life — when you believe that living on this Earth is but a blip on the screen, then you don’t have to be so scared of things”, seems to be a common theme in the Bible Belt area for sure.

I personally think it is putting faith above science. How do you fix that?

and a very brief walkthrough Sam's Club. This was in Northern Colorado. Stores all have signs with the recommendation to wear masks and are requiring their staff to wear them (at least most stores), so perhaps that is setting an example for more customers. As I walked into Sams, I saw a stream of people in the parking lot carrying their masks, so the habit seems to be back for many.

This county has 69% of those 12 and older fully vaccinated, but just across the border is Wyoming--with its absolutely nightmarish uncontrolled spread of COVID in nearly the entire state (and minimal vaccination, of course). So, I'd imagine that is encouraging those living in Fort Collins, Boulder, and other Northern CO cities to grab for their masks.

still wearing them, depending on where you are of course. Not any people bothering you if you wear one, some looks maybe but that seems to be it. Most places still require them here and the employees where I usually go wear them but I have noticed a lot of people wearing them under their noses now. They may as well take them off but apparently the store is OK with that.

Everyone got their first round and thought they were done. It's ridiculous.

We are the outliers but continue to wear ours even while sitting and not eating. I think it's silly to wear it all the way to the table and then take it off. It's not likely COVID goes away when you are seated.

We are starting to see more events that are vaccinated only and mask required when not eating, but all of the big outdoor events are full on "freedumb" super spreader events. Even progressive businesses are permitting way too many unmasked to walk in unchecked.

We need to start tightening things up. For the mandates to work the unvaxxed and unmasked need to be a shamed minority.

It's invaded my bridge center too... lots of people
are playing there unmasked.

Lots are not playing there, though, including me.

I have six or seven partners I play with online,
and that works fine for me.

I have been much more happy and relaxed since
I got vaxxed, so not that much really bothers me
except for Republicans and the possibility of losing

At least here up north.
In July, I saw 10% masked at the supermarket.
I'm seeing 70-75% now.
At the pharmacy, it was everybody.
Liquor store is about 50:50.
Went to Kohl's & Shoe Carnival yesterday. At the first, I saw only 3 unmasked. At the latter, none.
Haven't been to hardware store, but I'm guessing it's not as good.
But, an encouraging uptick. Our state numbers for both cases & deaths reflect it. (Both trending down the last 7-10 days)
