Chris Hayes just did a great job taking apart the SC

He and Elie Mystal called out the whining and ass-covering from Barrett and Alito about not being “partisan hacks.” He said the criticism is obviously getting under their skin and advised everybody to keep it up.

is in desperate need of reform, term limits comes to mind as a good starting point. Thom Hartmann has some good ideas in his book, Hidden History of the Supreme Court.

Been a long day for an old man. I meant to explain a piece of history. The famed Court packing plan was just a ruse. FDR never even talked to the Speaker of the House about it. The Supremes have always mostly been partisan hacks but they are not stupid. They realize that without widespread approval they could easily be relegated non important both by local judiciary and a few minor law changes. Also, most of them are experienced judges and know how important respect for the judiciary is the most important feature of our legal system. The long and short of it is by 1940 they had reversed all their Lochner era bullshit on things like child labor and union rights. Local power is immense on the decisions to enforce laws and only the very rich or well funded can afford to even appeal to the next court level, let alone the Supremes. In our last election one of the DA candidates promised not prosecute less than 25 lbs of pot. The rest took the same line. It may have been for an evil purpose, but Andrew Jackson said it best: "How big f an Army does the Supreme Court have?".

Thankfully they can't rule that abortions are illegal across the USA and women will be able to catch a flight to liberal states to get one. Supporters of abortion rights should set up a non-profit to help pay the transportation and lodging costs for women in states that forbid abortion that need an abortion.
