had the TV on. So I half heard a local commercial for a company called "Plantation Shutters for You". But I did hear the end! They said," if you voted for Joe Biden or are a liberal voter, don't call us"! Wow, SW Florida repubs are now officially nuts! Hope the bankruptcy courts sees this business soon.

(32,075 posts)My bet is that it's some sort of scam to collect information on Democrats.

(32,075 posts)A quick Google turned up a web page for what looks like a fake business. There's a phone number, and the reverse look-up links it to a woman currently going by the name "Lynnette Cobb." She has gone by multiple other names. This has got to be some sort of scam to harvest information. If someone wants to complain, I recommend they contact the TV station that aired this thing, and not the number on the web page.

(2,114 posts)I mean, the Republican's darkside troll comrades in Russia are doing their damnedest to support the G.O.P. efforts to kill basic factual truth, and USA democracy.
Russia wants US chaos. And the Republicans are determined to be the fascist stooges who make that happen.
Hard not to see it for what it is. It's as plain as biscuits without gravy.

(61,539 posts)This might be a sneaky way to buy anti-Biden advertising, maybe getting around campaign laws or just saturating media with anti-Biden material.
To a casual watcher it makes it look like there is a lot of anti-Biden belief, and we know that kind of peer pressure works.
I wonder if we'll see more of this.

(2,114 posts)What the hell, I mean, maybe you don't like him or his policies. That's one thing. But he's basically an OK guy as people go, especially in comparison to the casino-hustling, pussy-grabbing, draft-dodging, contractor-cheating, Russia-fellating, lying, cheating "billionaire" bully who is the Republican OBJECT OF WORSHIP.
Republicans have sold their individual and collective souls. It shows. Now they are wildly spinning down down down into DEEP BLEEPING DARKNESS.
Sad. As far as the G.O.P. goes, Orwell nailed it:

(21,346 posts)She was by far the better qualified candidate, no contest on that. In fact, she was probably the best qualified person in the history of the US to run for the presidency, excepting George Washington and FDR.
But they would have gone after her worse than they did Obama. Still, she is used to their negativity toward her and could have handled it. A strong person as well as being well qualified.

(37,157 posts)Why the weird loathing for Bill Clinton? For Hillary? For Barack Obama? For Michelle Obama? For Nancy Pelosi? For John Kerry?
Name any person. If you think there's a rational reason you're missing the real situation.
Conservatives have spent decades encouraging this open hatred and bile, deliberately addicting people to outrage to make a voting base they could control by feeding that outrage. Every grudge, bigotry, and pet peeve has been nursed and nurtured to make hating the "not us" reflexive, as ingrained team spirit as cheering the local ball team.
And that sort of "righteous" outrage, to have a scapegoat you can vomit anger upon, can be very satisfying. It's certainly very addictive.
They started really working these fields in the late 60s, hating hippies and anti-war protestors, minorities (through dog whistles to avoid looking Klan), "government bureaucrats", etc. That sprouted fruit, so they just kept expanding the target list.

(16,905 posts)As the U.S. enacts laws about women's rights, minority rights, gay rights, and so on, there are less and less groups to hate on, without facing possible legal repurcussions.
Dems and liberals as a group aren't specifically protected against hate crimes, although after the events of the last 5 years, especially last year, and last week, I'd welcome becoming a protected group.
Funny that the anti-war, hippies and others activists from that era are the protectors of our democracy. Althought, thinking back, I don't remember the protesters trying to over throw the government, just murderous policies.

(25,140 posts)There are rules about political ads on TV etc.
And if it's a scam ad, there are even stricter rules.
The internet can get away with scam ads, but not TV.
I believe there are FCC rules about commercials.
Here is their website:

It looks like a real business, but it is weird. You can't order online and they don't give much info about their business.
Plantation shutters are a real thing too. I think they are trying to phase the name out. They're an upgrade from mini blinds. I see them at home improvement stores.
