Maine pharmacists flag ivermectin prescriptions from people seeking drug for COVID

BY EDWARD D. MURPHY

... Tom Edge, the retail pharmacy manager for Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, said he’s refused to fill six prescriptions for ivermectin in the last month.

... ivermectin is rarely used on humans, Edge said, and he filled only three legitimate prescriptions for the drug in the past year. The most recent prescriptions he’s received came from out-of-state doctors, he said, “which is always a little bit of a red flag anyway.”

... “We can refuse any prescription that we feel is not being used for a legitimate purpose.”

When he contacted the doctors who wrote the prescriptions and was told it was intended to ward off or treat COVID, Edge told them he would not fill the prescription ...

Jackie Drees - Wednesday, September 29th, 2021

A slew of virtual healthcare providers have made millions from selling online COVID-19 consultations, as well as prescriptions for hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin, The Intercept reported Sept. 28.

An anonymous hacker gave the publication access to hundreds of thousands of records from two digital health companies, CadenceHealth.us and Ravkoo. The data shows that people concerned about COVID-19 or suffering from the virus have paid at least $15 million for consultations and prescriptions for hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin, according to the report.

Misinformation online has fueled rumors that ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine can treat COVID-19 despite physicians' disagreements with the claims. In August, the CDC and FDA warned that COVID-19 patients should not use ivermectin, which is an anti-parasite drug usually used to treat infections in animals ...

The numbers are staggering.

A health alert issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in late August said that ivermectin dispensing from retail pharmacies in the U.S. jumped from an average of 3,600 a week pre-pandemic to a 39,000 a week in January. And since then, ivermectin dispensing has continued to shoot up, reaching more than 88,000 prescriptions a week in mid-August, the agency said.

I'm thinking of offering folk my Famous Tastee Cure "Made with Natural Turpentine and Real Ostrich Feathers" which will come in a canning jar --- but I've decided not to buy the jars until I get enough orders

Human med gor horse, horse med for human.

I keep on meaning to check on availability if ivermectin at tack shop. I think most humans in my area are not stupid. Mind you, we have our share of nutjobs but not so many that there’d be a tin on horse dewormer.

Think of it like this - the more horses per capita a state has, the more likely one can believe it is full of Trumpers.

The more horses in a state, the more likely they are to have stores stocked with things to sell for the horses.

So while I'm not saying everyone with a horse prefers miracle cures from Dr. TikTok over science and evidence-based medicine, I am saying areas with a certain horse/person ratio might have some tack stores that are a little low on dewormer meds, having nothing to do with actual horses, or worms.

they also are the makers of Ivermectin. (Somewhere you know there is a "we told you so" coming from some anti-vax maroon who can barely tie his or her own shoes, but claims some innate knowledge of pharmaceuticals, still not knowing the difference between a deworming remedy for livestock and an anti-viral drug.)

If my dr prescribed it for me, I wouldn't question it anymore than I did when he prescribed me nadalol and atasvortastin. He's been my gp for 22 years, and I trust him.

I do know I have two cousins that believe they were saved by hydroquera-whatever, the supposed Trump med. I'm grateful they're alive for whatever reason.

Healthcare isn't political.

Human dirofilariasis is generally divided into pulmonary dirofilariasis ( D. immitis) and subcutaneous dirofilariasis ( D. repens, D. tenuis, and others). During a blood meal, an infected mosquito introduces third-stage filarial larvae of Dirofilaria immitis into the skin of the definitive host, where they penetrate into the bite wound .

If the mosquito bites you instead of your dog, you can get the worm. I knew that part, but I did not realize that the worm will settle in the lungs and will die if it sets up home in the human heart.

The whole ivermectin thing must have started in a 3rd world company with the the doctors there thinking it was dirofilariasis.

It's a parasite in Africa that causes something called "River Blindness"..

I have no idea how ivermectin and Covid got connected. Is the animal version available without a prescription? That's what I'm thinking.

You can get the horse paste without an Rx:
