These people are part of the problem; "I don't know, maybe I'll get the vaccine if..." I guess maybe when half the people they know get sick? Too late by that time.

(64,963 posts)...is the "they rushed it" nonsense.
First, if they ever got a flu vax, did they know what safety studies were done on that version? No. Did they know how much time they spent developing it? No.
Then, those people have no idea that mRNA technology has been worked on for 18 years.
It wasn't until COVID where there was an urgency & need to gear up for full manufacture. The effort & costs would be worth it now, because we're talking billions of doses.
The gear was hurried in an all hands on deck way, but it wasn't "rushed".
I see it as an excuse to avoid doing the smart thing by making the reason sound " sciencey". But, it isn't. It's hypocritical & ignorant.

(6,034 posts)Many of the people who brought back measles come from allegedly educated progressive communities because they believe vaccines cause autism.
The political spectrum is often circular not linear. There are causes that unite the far right and far left.
The anti-tax morons are one of them.

Then again, I'm not scared of needles so maybe it looks worse to someone who is.

For those who think that there hasn't been enough research, here is a simple explanation from one of my favorite YouTube channels:

(3,242 posts)I think platelets is a much quicker turn around...looked it up, you can do up to 24 times per year, have to wait at least 7 days! I don't like doing that as the time at the center is over and hour. I am heading for 8 gallons...

(8,425 posts)One's an edgelord that is giddy about the fact that the virus is "culling the herd", yet doesn't think the vax is effective. I have since distanced myself from him. Which has been heartbreaking as I previously thought the world of him.

(8,425 posts)A poster on an Internet forum, (particularly 4chan) who expresses opinions which are either strongly nihilistic, ("life has no meaning," or Tyler Durden's special snowflake speech from the film Fight Club being probably the two main examples) or contain references to Hitler, Nazism, fascism, or other taboo topics which are deliberately intended to shock or offend readers.
The term "edgelord," is a noun, which came from the previous adjective, "edgy," which described the above behaviour.
Nietzsche was an edgelord before it was cool.

But those who tend to distrust or just aren't interested, assuming positive thinking will take care of it, tend to fall into various general "off balance" patterns. Some distrust a bit too much in general, especially government/"the establishment," agencies and their science, all wealthy people, mainstream ways, GMOs, prescription drugs and on and on.
Or those drawn a bit too exclusively to healthy living, herbal remedies, cosmic spiritualites and protections, either blowing off science or just regarding it as a limited way to discover truth. A lovely relative of ours was disinclined for a while to get vaccinated -- what will be will be, if it's meant to be it'll happen, I never get sick because I live healthy, etc.
Of course those with conspiracist traits have tended to become easy victims of what's happening, big surprise there. We've never bothered to ask a certain pair if they were. Charming but paranoid loons who never saw a rabbit hole that didn't promise safety from reality; whether it disappears into the far left or far right (before twisting god only knows where) seems possibly a matter of the mood of the day.

(25,205 posts)They don't have access to information.
There are also people who don't speak English, who are not vaccinated because of language barriers
There are also people who are marginalized who are not vaccinated
There are homeless people who are not vaccinated
____
They are not anti-vaxxers, they just don't have accurate information. Some didn't get vaccines because they heard lines were very long. Some work night shifts etc.

(6,588 posts)Accurate info? All they have to do is ask a Doctor or pharmacist or nurse. Pick up a newspaper.
99 times out of a hundred they will get solid advice.
Just because they dont speak English or are homeless doesnt mean they are stupid.
All anti vaxers are stubborn. They may know they are wrong but too stubborn to admit it.
If they havent had it by now they probably arent going to take it.
Bull headed & stubborn.
They dont wanna to take it.
Let em die. I think its a death wish. They want it.
