How Tesla managed to deliver a record amount of cars inspite of computer chip shortage.
I read an interesting explanation as to how Tesla was able to deliver a record amount of cars while other car companies can't get enough computer chips to fill their orders.
Most car companies use older, obsolete chips for their driving systems.
Because of Covid, car orders dropped and orders for new electronic gizmos increased so chip makers shifted factories making the older chips to making the newer ones.
Now car orders are increasing again so the car companies need more of the older chips but the chip makers don't want to spend billions to reconfigure their factories back to making the older, obsolete chips again.
Tesla spent the Covid time redesigning their systems to use the latest chips so the chip makers are happy to supply them from their current factories.
Seems that the traditional car companies need to start re-thinking the way they do things.
