I didn't correct you to be a dick. I just find it really interesting

(21,846 posts)I remember green stamps from the 1960s, which you could redeem for toasters and the like. But I don't think that's what you mean. What do you mean?

(5,770 posts)In the U.S., postage stamps are actually considered legal tender. So, they are the only form of prison currency that could actually be used legally in everyday life outside of prison.
Stamps hold a high value because snail mail is one of the few sanctioned forms of communication prisoners have with the outside world. And as a bonus, inmates are allowed to have stamps, making them ideal currency.

Our jaws will probably drop at how bad his public corruption is.

(13,493 posts)is a piece of excrement. The whole SBA was awful. Glad he's resigned. Maybe it'll take some of the wind out of their MAGA sails.
Hope whatever the FBI has on him is ironclad. lol.

(14,490 posts)From the NBC article on the raid, that says the FBI raided his home along with the union office:
snips....
Mullins also remains a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump.
The SBA's bylaws require Mullins to continue working as an NYPD sergeant, but records show he is not currently assigned a specific post. And while he was paid $133,195 by the city in 2020, his full-time job was running the SBA, which pays him an additional salary.
Mullins was paid $88,757 by the union in 2019, according to the SBA's most recent paperwork, which listed him as a trustee.
That adds up to around 200 grand ultimately out of tax-payer's money to a guy that appears to be just a GOP parrot.
Not my home city but it is concerning that it may be indicative of many other cop unions around the nation.

(13,493 posts)thrilled he resigned. Don't know what he did, but hope it was a doozy and that he'll go to jail for it.

(7,839 posts)Distinct from the police forces, mostly, that they legally represent as bargaining agents..
PSPS
(13,591 posts)The way it works is that they get the dues, donations generated from misleading robocalls, etc., and then use it to help elect "like minded" politicians. This is why, in many cities, the RW racist sadists (or certainly a sympathizer) get a financial "campaign donation" boost to become mayor or some other public office that is in charge of the actual cops.

Police unions aggressive politics is harmful to the greater community food, I think.
Maybe time to legislate police unions as aggressively as the right wing legislate other labor,, no more police carve outs.
