Percy is moving on to its next drill site in Mars' lonely Jezero Crater.

Like a white gumball dropped in the sand, NASA's Perseverance rover glints amongst the cliffs of Mars in a striking new satellite image.
Perseverance or "Percy," to its familiars has been rolling around Mars' massive Jezero Crater ever since it completed a death-defying parachute drop onto the Red Planet in February. In this image, captured by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, Percy pushes through the dirt of South Séítah a series of rocky ridges covered by sand dunes in order to find a nice, ancient boulder to drill into.
South Séítah (which comes from a Navajo language word meaning "amidst the sand," according to NASA) sits about 650 feet (200 meters) from the site of Percy's first successful drilling operation, completed in early September. Targeting a large boulder nicknamed "Rochette," Percy extracted a pencil-thin core sample, which NASA researchers hope to retrieve and deliver to Earth in a future unmanned mission.

I remember being a child and being in awe of NASA and the things that they could do.
Thank you for reviving that reverence for me...if only for a glimpse of what we COULD (SHOULD!!!) be...

(21,998 posts)From The Earth To The Moon is a 13-part series about the U.S. space program from President Kennedys speech calling for a successful round trip to the Moon through Apollo 17, our last visit to our celestial neighbor. Tom Hanks produced it for HBO and he introduces each episode. The writing, acting, special effects and music are superior.
Ive watched it several times and I get chills every time I see Armstrong and Aldrin flying the Eagle over the barren face of the Moon. The program illustrates the many (sometimes conflicting) issues faced by NASA, the history of the program, the astronauts and their families.
The episode about Apollo One is poignantly told with many great insights. (Theres a fascinating sub-plot involving then-Senator Walter Mondale.) The Apollo 8 story begins with an exposition about the tensions our nation faced in 1968 and ends with the famous and inspiring Earthrise photo; a congratulatory telegram sent to those astronauts read, Thanks for saving 1968.
Theres lots of drama and tons of comedy, too. The music scores are some of the best!
Each episode had different production teams but they all fit together seamlessly.
The series may be available to stream online but its also available on DVD.
