(102,104 posts)stick--the aluminum fitness type (which typically remained collapsed). However, if someone did crowd behind me, I could extend it and "help" the person behind me to recognize the correct distance to remain from me. I only have had to do it twice--they got the message that the stick was not just there for show and tell or for my balance...Of course, I never touched anyone with it, nor would I unless accosted.
My community has been more respectful than some others, but there is always a "lout" in every crowd, it seems.

(58,785 posts)and their faces (fully viewable, of course) said being more explicit wasn't going to either. Since there was someone ahead in line at the next mark, I started by step-pivoting to swing it sideways between us. Surprise!
