What in the holy hell is wrong with these people?

(34,108 posts)is that our school systems have been rendered almost useless in so many places. Nobody teaches kids to think. They become adults like this where the only thing they actually know is winning and losing and to them tfg is a winner and Dems are always losers, even if they win.
I burned myself out trying to figure all this out a while ago.

(9,664 posts)When everything is boiled down to black/white, winner/losers, good/evil, lead/follow, etc., it's then a zero sum game. With only two outcomes available, "thinking" becomes easy and takes far less effort no nuance necessary when the opposite of that is needed in this increasingly complex world.
Now for the autocrats, corporations, MSM and others doing the "boiling down", they have a powerful leg-up if they can convince enough folks that theirs is the path to follow, which is where we seem to be today: "no need to think you brave Patriots because we will and are doing it for you."

(5,126 posts)Our 'education' system is nothing of the kind. Firstly, there is no attempt to teach critical thinking skills. In other words, we are filling their heads with facts that they have to regurgitate, but we are not teaching them to think... to learn... that has gone by the wayside. It is low level indoctrination in that the powers that want this are trying to remove those aspects from our educational model and only working on the brainwashing. It is very scary, to be honest. It is also why I get out of the 'education' racket. I cannot support what it has become any more.

(34,108 posts)I am sorry it has come to this. I have a Music Ed degree but my path took me elsewhere and I never did teach, just the student teaching part that was quite enjoyable. I have always had so much respect for teachers. *music has suffered under this as well, many of the kids coming out of our public schools now are tragically behind. It is stunning the difference every year.
The education my kids had was nothing like what I had. It was lacking in so many ways and I was thankful that their father and I could add to what seemed to be lacking. I worry that this is just the tip of the iceberg as this trend continues. Many parents are now too busy trying to keep the family stable and secure within the system we are living in. They hardly have the time to spend much time talking about more than what tomorrow will bring that they have to navigate.
As they say in other situations, thank you for your service. Teachers, and librarians are my heroes.

(43,181 posts)I mean, he won them the House.
He won them the Senate.
He won the popular vote, twice.
He consistently held an approval rating over 50%.
Wait a minute, I'm being told he actually did none of those things.
Yes, it is insanity. But there, but for the Grace of God, they shall go...

Presumably the two thirds who want him to "remain a key figure for many years to come" (but someone else for president) want to keep the party's steam up. They don't want to give up the fat orange engine that could.
I suspect that 44% are hoping for a coup d'etat.

(95,247 posts)He allows them to not just feel but express and glory in the worst elements of their character, that cannot be faced without facing up to being mean and base in their beliefs and actions, but which can still provide a rush of righteous rage and hate for people who would have them do just that, and learn and change. Providing, always, that there still is a leader they can know for their own who is every bit the base, mean fool they know themselves to be. So they can see themselves writ large and wide as the sky, like by rights they outta be.
The current crop of budding imitators lack the essential ingredient. Like being sincere, being utterly crass is difficult to fake, and as distinguishable from the real thing as brass from gold by a crowd in search of one as low as themselves on a grand scale.

(11,420 posts)During the 2016 campaign MSNBC was at one of the orange one's rallies and ask people why they supported the guy. "Because he is our chance to hurt the Democrats." We can not underestimate the amount of hate they have for us.

(3,110 posts)But the good news is they are BY FAR the minority-- like these MAGAt crazies amount to only about 20% or less of all Americans. So, given that, the messaging should be that 80% of all Americans want nothing to do with that orange anus, and all of his spawn, and wish TFG would f*cking DISAPPEAR forever from our national political discourse, if not altogether. He is POISON and most Americans are fully fed up with everything to do with him!!!

(32,080 posts)It's just a matter of time before that other third joins them. What's left is a death cult.
The bad thing about this poll is that it doesn't tell you what is the proportion of Republicans in the general population. As has been pointed out, it's only about 20%. But, they still make it sound like there's a 50-50 split.
