The U.S. Senate on Thursday approved legislation to temporarily raise the federal government's $28.4 trillion debt limit and avoid the risk of a historic default later this month, but it put off until early December a decision on a longer-lasting remedy.

The Senate voted 50-48 to pass the bill following weeks of partisan fighting.

11 allowed the vote to move forward and then they didn't vote for it but it didn't need 60 votes.

that no legislation get passed unless the monied interests, corporations, and wealthy want it to pass. We sometimes fool ourselves into thinking that is that not the case. In this iteration it is Manchin and Sinema that are the vehicle ti stop this full bill from passing. If it were not them it would be some other senator(s). This is no longer a government by the people for the people.

Monied interests, since the nation’s founding, have controlled national affairs. Today, with organized lobbyists, things are corrosive. There is no real public lobby, Common Cause used to do a decent job, but that organization seems to have receded into the background.

Integrity means they did it for a greater good and rule of law. They did it because of the back pressure they were getting to get this off the table as it was costing them major political points.

From the Republican view point, this was a fighting withdrawal.
