(3,245 posts)the committee intends to be.
We've heard over and over that the committee will not stand for having their subpoenas ignored. Well their first round of subpoenas have been ignored.
The longer they drag their feet on a response, the less credibility they start to show.
Time to put a bite behind that bark.

(8,706 posts)Meet with McConnell and extend the deadline until December. And keep saying Mitch Folded 🤬

(11,000 posts)Oh, youre bashing Democrats. Because you dont understand that McConnell has nothing to do with the House!

(8,706 posts)Damn🥱 I was just sarcastically relating the delay to the debt ceiling kicked down the street a month and shouting to the skies we smacked Mitch down. There are certainly two Dems, needing a bit of bashing. FFS.

(111,069 posts)Holding Mark Meadows and Dan Scavino accountable is not the same as holding Donald Trump accountable. Trump is setting a trap for himself if that is what he believes?

(3,245 posts)the criminal referrals may finally put to the test some of the things that have been discussed here over the last few weeks.
This may finally put to the test the legality of former Presidents being able to claim executive privilege. Those discussions were very informative especially as they referred to Meadows and Scavino.
It may also put to the test of whether political operatives, and in this regard, I'm not sure if Bannon was a political operative or staff member during his time at the White House. If a President can claim immunity for political discussions as it relates to a re-election campaign then it would seem to me that politics and governance become one and the same.
As for Kash Patel, he's in no mans land. And if I were the attorney who advised him not to comply without them formally representing Patel, I would think I would be somewhat worried about a possible ethics violation.

(111,069 posts)...in claiming "executive privilege" during a criminal investigation?
It would set no precedent for claiming "executive privilege", in my opinion.
There could be future cases where executive privilege might be considered more legitimate?

(3,245 posts)claiming executive priviledge. Without that, their only avenues are to either tell the truth or claim fifth amendment rights. They were direct reports to Trump which I think is a totally different situation from Bannon and Patel.
The point I was hoping to make was mostly about Bannon and any legitimate claims he may think he has. If Bannon is allowed to claim priviledge and it is uphelp, then I think the lines of political conversations held a sitting President at the time they occurred being covered under executive priviledge would be dangerous.

(111,069 posts)Also, the former guy's claim of "executive privilege" is in contradiction to the present guy's claim of no executive privilege in this matter.
Does a former president's claim outweigh the present occupant in the White House?

(94,480 posts)Setting aside the fact that Twitter hashtags aren't going to convince the Jan 6 Committee to do anything, I have no reason to assume that the Committee WON'T enforce the subpoenas and that the DOJ won't assist. I don't care what happened to subpoenas during the Trump Administration. This is the Biden Administration.

(16,350 posts)Thanks for this.
I am MASSIVELY tired of people assuming that Garland isn't doing anything just because they haven't been personally informed of his plans/activities/agenda. I rarely comment on those posts anymore, because I'm sick and tired of typing the same thing over and over.
We are not SUPPOSED to know every detail of what the DOJ is doing. I know four years of the Chump administration have taken a toll on some people's ability to trust anything the federal government does, but at some point, we all need to get beyond that and get it through our heads that Biden is not Chump, and Merrick Garland is not Bill Barr.

(1,204 posts)but refusal to comply with subpoenas from congress is a lesser violation, like a civil infraction. BUT if they then fail to appear for depositions next week, then that's another higher crime, more of a felony.
So, if the committee waits a few more days to let these 4 'gentlemen' dig their deeper graves, I'm willing to wait these extra days.

(1,402 posts)I am a born and raised USA citizen..........why, oh, why can't they just arrest all of the January 6th traitors. If any one of the rest of us did that or anything lesser we'd be in jail for a long time. How can these criminals get off scot free? Please someone, give us some answers.
