Newsmax Host Says US Should Eliminate 4 govt agencies and comment section isn't dominated by MAGAs

And if we need money to pay those already-promised, not new, already-promised future obligations, then simply do away with lots in government. How about do away with the departments that we do not need. We start with the Department of Education. Move on to the Department of Commerce. [EPA]. And yes, even the Department of Energy. Just wipe them out. That takes care of much more than $100 billion alone. And states should be handling all of those things on their own anyway.

I held my nose and went into the comments expecting them to be dominated by the usual MAGA/Faux news crowd... was surprised to find comments like this dominating:

Alfred McKie14h
Do some people really think far enough before they speak? What would be Stinchfield's comments if it was the Republicans who drafted the Infrastructure BIll? He suggests that states should be handling education, commerce and energy on their own, but what about the more financially and economically challenged states (primarily due to population size and resources)? How would they handle these things? I guess in his world only the strong survive. And then you have others commenting that smarter people would move to the more competent states. What??? Do they understand the negative impact that a huge and untimely population shift can have on the communities that are directly affected???

Bernhard Goetsch13h
Sure. Wipe out the Department of Education. Because dumb people are better to control. And the Department of Energy-- lets burn more coal. If the States are handling "all these things" by themselves, the "United" in United States is just becoming a failed experiment.

Barbara Anderson
Eliminate welfare to Exxon, Big Pharma, WalMart and the rest of the leach corporate entities and you would have solved a good portion of the economic problems. Raise taxes on those who don't contribute to the infrastructure but use it daily, and let them pay for it. But no. This guy wants to default on our debt. In other words, and this article is wrong here, defaulting on the debt is defaulting on payment for services, goods, people ALREADY used. Not future contracts. Lets really hurt this country, along with the 1/6 insurrection, lets tank the world economy.

Atheist in a Foxhole13h
Yeah...we need the Dept. of Education and the USEPA. Education should be an absolute priority and all the Red states will totally ignore environmental concerns. I'm not informed enough about the Dept. of Commerce and DOE to say we couldn't axe them with no repercussions...but $100 Billion is about 0.4% (four tenths of one percent) of the $23.16 Trillion National Debt (as of today). $100 Billion is a HUGE amount of money, but compared to $23.16 Trillion it's chump change. This "plan" is irrelevant. This guy is just pandering to bumpkins who don't understand math (Newsmax's demographic).

Abolishing Commerce, Education and Energy was a conservative mantra when Ronald Reagan was president.

That's what made Rick Perry's failure to name the 3 agencies he wanted to kill so shocking.

Back then, the strategy was to colonize and subvert agencies like EPA, not abolish them.

Even the better resourced states won't want to do the heavy lifting done by these agencies.

Department of Energy - eliminated... have actually NO IDEA what it does.

The main role of the DOE is the nation's nuclear arsenal.

Period. Full Stop.

Sure, there is a small part devoted to research into renewables.

And there is the multi-billion dollar Fusion Energy research program.

But, by and large, the main goal of the DOE is the creation, care, and testing (now with simulations) of our nuclear weapons.

Oak Ridge National Labs, Los Alamos National Lab, Sandia National Lab, Lawrence Livermore National Lab, Argonne National Lab... these ALL (plus a few others) came directly out of WWII and the "Manhattan Project".

When the idiot conservatives talk about eliminating the DOE, they THINK this is some government agency that deals with regulating the oil, gas, and coal industries.

is trying to find ways to deal with the nuclear waste from the Manhattan Project up until now. And, not just waste from our nuclear arsenal, but also from that of the dozens and dozens of nuclear power plants both in the US and abroad. All of which keeps it out of the hands of the likes of Al Qaeda, Atomwaffen Division, Hezbollah, and other terrorist organizations and individuals. No doubt there's some Red Hatter out there plotting to create a dirty bomb. Maybe we should just dispose of all that waste in Mr. Stansfield's yard.

He's a regular subject of Hal Sparks' daily MST3K-style mockings. Stinchfield is is probably the most stupid guy on that network, which is saying something, because none of them there has an IQ higher than that of a grapefruit.
