Right-winger Allen West has suspended in-person events for his Texas gubernatorial campaign because he developed COVID symptoms after his wife tested positive.
In a Saturday morning Twitter thread, the Trump-loving ex-congressman said he has not gotten the COVID vaccine but is already taking Hydrochloroquine and Ivermectin protocolstwo unproven drugs popular with the anti-vaxxer crowd.
After taking COVID and flu shots, Angela West tested positive for COVID yesterday, Friday, the tweet said.
Col. West is experiencing a low grade fever and light body aches. Out of concern for public health, Col. West is suspending in-person events until receiving an all-clear indication.

(61,033 posts)she got the vaccine. Wonder if the vaccine helps if you're already positive for covid?
Boy, with Abbott and West, they've got some real winners in Texas gubernatorial politics.

(197 posts)Texas Republican gubernatorial candidate Allen West, who is not vaccinated against COVID-19, tweeted on Saturday that he may be admitted to the hospital after a chest X-ray showed he has pneumonia caused by the virus.
Theres a concern about my oxygen saturation levels, which are at 89 and they should be at 95, West tweeted, adding in a follow-up tweet, My chest X-rays do show COVID pneumonia, not serious. I am probably going to be admitted to the hospital.

(197 posts)At the time I posted this, I didn't notice another thread on the topic. I posted there that
We give supplemental oxygen to patients to maintain blood oxygen saturation of 92% to 96%. Its important to note that only patients on supplemental oxygen benefit from the life-saving effects of glucocorticoids, Sotoodehnia said. On average our hypoxemic patients had an oxygen saturation of 91% when they came into the hospital, so a huge number of them were already well below where we wouldve administered life-saving measures. For them, that care was delayed.
The study's primary measure was all-cause in-hospital mortality. Overall, 197 patients died in the hospital. Compared to those admitted with normal blood oxygen, hypoxemic patients had a mortality risk 1.8 to 4.0 times greater, depending on the patients blood oxygen levels. Similarly, compared to patients admitted with normal respiratory rates, those with tachypnea had a mortality risk 1.9 to 3.2 times greater.
