(54,770 posts)sites, a few newspapers where you get to fight with GOPers, hiking trails, local info, school update, bourbon, etc.
Not once have I changed my mind unless I learn and verify something I had not thought about. Did discover that most of the rubes I went to high school are still rubes. But a few have surprised me.
Most of the peeps I went to school with are still nerds, and none have surprised me!

(27,813 posts)FB is whatever you choose it to be.
In addition to staying in touch with family and distant friends, my go-to FB place is a page devoted to my neighbourhood. Lost pets have been found and returned to owners, people recommend local services they've found satisfactory, many "curb alerts" from those putting out furniture, toys, household goods that are no longer needed, but still usable for those who do need them.
Many alerts for new businesses opening in our immediate community - and a real sense of 'buying local' being promoted.
For me, that's a 'smart use' of FB.

(6,911 posts)It was a ripoff and clearly demonstrated Facebook had no control over the merchandise they allow to be served to Facebook users. They just didnt care, any reputable commercial outlet could have spotted such an obvious fraud but Facebook didnt.
Bought one thing and never again. And mistrusted Facebook, too, visiting little to none now.

(25,839 posts)Such as finding out when a friend I had not been in touch with died. Or when someone close to me died, and thanks to FB over 200 friends showed up at a memorial for that person.
Yeah, I'm staying of FB. If you don't want to, fine. Do what works for you.

(7,700 posts)...sadly. One of my ole buds killed himself recently.
Super sad addition to a list of too many I knew who sadly did the same.

(7,700 posts)..His name was Joel. I was told by another friend when we were both very young. It hurt us both to the core so long ago.
We really need to melt tons of guns, and bullets, to stop at least a bit of it.
So far, we have all failed.
(more tears)
