**LATEST** Study claiming COVID-19 vaccine significant cause of heart inflammation WITHDRAWN

Study saying COVID-19 vaccines cause heart inflammation that was hyped by anti-vaxxers, withdrawn due to miscalculation

https://www.businessinsider.com/study-saying-covid-19-vaccines-cause-heart-inflammation-pulled-2021-10

**A preprint study stated that 1 in 1,000 recipients of the COVID-19 vaccine could get myocarditis.

**The study has been withdrawn after a miscalculation overestimated the risk of the heart condition.

**The COVID-19 is safe to get, and there is more risk of getting myocarditis from COVID-19

A preprint study first published on MedRxiv that claimed a 1 in 1,000 risk of contracting myocarditis from a COVID-19 vaccination has been withdrawn due to miscalculations.

MedRxiv is a website that publishes studies that have yet to be peer-reviewed, according to Reuters.

The study was first published on September 16 and conducted by researchers at The University of Ottawa Heart Institute. It was widely used to promote the idea that the COVID-19 vaccine is unsafe for use.

However, the study has been retracted due to a miscalculation, Reuters reported.

The rate of myocarditis - the inflammation of the heart muscle - was calculated by dividing the number of COVID-19 vaccines in Ottawa by the number of incidences of the heart condition.

By their calculations, the risk of myocarditis was 1 in 1,000 or 0.1%.

However, the numbers used by the study were wrong. The authors largely underestimated the amount of vaccines delivered, giving a number 25 times smaller than the actual amount.

They initially said that the number of vaccines delivered was 32,379 – when it was actually 854,930.

As a result of this miscalculation, the study was withdrawn on September 24, with the researchers saying in a statement: "Our reported incidence appeared vastly inflated by an incorrectly small denominator (ie number of doses administered over the time period of the study). We reviewed the data available at Open Ottawa and found that there had indeed been a major underestimation, with the actual number of administered doses being more than 800,000.

publication. And those same pre-prints are being grossly misinterpreted and disseminated by the general public. So when this happens, the "false information" is halfway around the world already.

...or something, then maybe ok.
Like, 35,000 vaccines when it was really 53,000.
But, how the heck could they makes an 800,000 vaccine error.
Incredibly dumb!

I don't know.

You don't know or you would have been specific about the data pathway.

Maybe they called someone up and the other person misheard the question.
Or similar in email.
Or they slipped a column when reading a table.
Or they used one definition and the data source was operating on another table.
Or they got data for one district and not the larger entity.

... etc.

I can't believe it was that hard to confirm the denominator given every local public health group is reporting the numbers daily.
Every one of your "excuses" are still examples of sloppy work.
You say I don't know the pathway of the data? Your post suggests that no matter the path that did a terrible job of vetting, analyzing, & reporting.
Your own criticism of my post suggests the pathway of the data is irrelevant.
Does it seem remotely feasible to you that at the time of this analysis, there were 35,000 vaccinated people in Ottawa? You don't think these analysts should have flagged the denominator?
Excusing this mistake which provides ammunition to the antivax brigade is ridiculous.
There's no excusing such sloppy work.
Their result was off by a factor of 25!!! And, you want to excuse it as a chain of custody or clerical error? I can't agree at all.

It was a data mistake. They plugged the wrong data in.

The math was fine.

Was doomed to catastophe from the onset. See fish tank cleaner poisoning case, hundreds of poison center calls for OD's of Ivermectin and heaven only knows the quack cures and preventatives have proliferated.
Anything but the safe preventative so they can tantrum about the "Fauci ouchie".
This damn misinformation pandemic needs to be halted along with the virus.
