(18,338 posts)Trump fit right into the direction the GOP was going since the Tea Party days...
Trump didn't CREATE the lunacy today, he just became the poster-boy for it.
Liz doesn't "Fit" in today's GOP.

(11,098 posts)It's headed towards pure unadulterated fascism. Although the vast majority of the party still seemed to at least pander towards some version of moderation however disingenuous it might have been in 2013, and finding a new identity outside of that failed romney-esque identity. To me it seems like the exact opposite of now in so many ways.
I would imagine if the gop suffers another major loss next year, that goose step towards fascism may reach a dead end, and swift reversal.

(572 posts)I saw some polling somewhere today that she would lose in the WY rep primary to Gray by 79-17%
That's how much Republicans hate her.

(11,098 posts)Kinda like how trump seemed so far fetched in 2013, is my point. He didn't even break 1% of the vote when he ran in 2000.

(18,338 posts)There were PLENTY of Republicans that were SOOOO embarrassed by Trump that they reluctantly voted for Biden, for a return to normalcy.
Give them an option and they won't vote Democratic.

Ronald Reagan
Bush Jr.
Barack Obama
Donald Trump.
I thought none of these people would become President of the U.S.A....for a host of reasons...
Politics is indeed strange....

(34,750 posts)Not sure who it will be, but I neither of them are getting the nomination. Trump will probably have fled the country at that point, as his debts are all coming due, and he'll be in hiding somewhere, trying to avoid them. And, that's if he's not completely incapacitated or dead by then. His health is shitty, and if his lifestyle doesn't do him in, the stress of not being able to pay his debtors probably will. Liz is an outcast in her party. I'm not sure she'll even be in Congress after next year, let alone the GOP nominee for President.

(18,338 posts)Marjorie Taylor Greene has a better chance of being the Democratic Party candidate for President in 2024 than Liz Cheney has for the GOP.
Cheney has literally NO BASE of support.
Imagine Liz campaigning in South Carolina, an early primary State.
1% tops.
Imagine the baying crowds of Trumpists at her events... yowling over her every word.
