Democrats, we spend taxes on citizens that pay them.
There, fixed it. Stop giving tax revenue to everyone but those that contribute it.

(41,070 posts)I think stay-at-home moms should get a SS benefit.
I worked hard raising 3 kids, my husband was a teacher, and we never had much $. Why shouldnt moms get SS benefits too? Do men not understand all the hard work that goes into keeping a home running and your children clean, clothed, fed, educated, etc.? With no help from family, I might add. I guess some men dont consider it work.

(13,166 posts)Another example of exemption. I am a single father, that worked my whole life and raised my daughter when her mon died of cancer when our daughter was 10. I know the work involved in raising a child. Also a teacher myself with minimal $$. My problem is to the epidemic of unmarried young women that continue to have children for the funds. It is a huge occurrence in rural WNC.

I don't understand this. Are you buying into some "welfare queen" myth?
Because denying benefits to mothers is a great way to torture children.

If that isn't the intent, the messaging doesn't work.

(13,166 posts)That work hard would love larger families but the cost of a child limits their desire to do so. Where I live there is a large population of barely high school grads and drop outs that pop out babies for cash. That is just a fact. Sounds cold to say, but I have two family members in Social Services that cry about the abuse they see of many of those children. Many circumstances make a broad brunch approach to the situation wrong, extreme poverty and lack of jobs here contribute. But there is an abuse of the system that should be addressed. Just an opinion. Means little to others I am sure.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
