"The scary thing is, this guy's not an outlier for today's Republican Party the party of Donald Trump, Marjorie Taylor-Greene, Lauren Boebert, Bob Good, Ken Cuccinelli, Glenn Youngkin, Winsome Sears, Jason Miyares, etc.," Blue Virginia wrote. "Which means, of course, that we'd better not let these people take power, here in Virginia or nationally, unless/until their entire party fundamentally changes back to sanity and actual, conservative principles, not extremist lunacy."
According to a tweet from last November, Pio is the organizer of the "Trump International Rapid Response Team," which mobilizes in support of the former president when he golfs in Virginia.
Randall Munroe, an engineer who authors the award-winning webcomic XKCD, recently calculated an estimated answer to Pio's question about the impact of removing all boats from the water. Munroe concluded that the impact on sea levels would be "about six micronsslightly more than the diameter of a strand of spider silk."
"But you don't have to worry about that six-micron sea level drop," Munroe wrote. "The oceans are currently rising at about 3.3 millimeters per year due to global warming (through both glacial melting and thermal expansion of seawater). At that rate (normalized for seasonal variation and short-term fluctations), if you removed every ship from the ocean, the water would be back up to its original average level in 16 hours."

(16,160 posts)Do they stay up all night thinking of these ridiculous statements? Every boat in the world out of the water will not make a drip of difference. They refuse to acknowledge NOAA,. Even the evidence from space that climate change is happening even after all these years of warning. Aggg

(1,602 posts)even if he was off just a wee bit in the effect It says to me though that even in GOP tiny brains, some awareness about global warming is finally beginning to penetrate.
The 3.3mm/year is actually be out of date (it's about 3.7 now and accelerating). Most of the melting to date has been due primarily to sea ice melting, which doesn't impact sea levels, but you are now beginning to see significant portions of Greenland and Nordic/Russian deglaciation contributing to that. Most projections I've seen put sea rise by 2100 at about 3m, which would end up flooding London, New York, New Orleans, Washington DC, Beijing, Tokyo, Venice, Amsterdam, Miami and Paris. Thermal expansion is also unpredictable, as the Caribbean and Mediterranean seas (both shallow and already hot) are likely to expand more than the Pacific, but that could add an additional meter to their respective basins.
Oh, and longer term? Greenland will ultimately contribute about 10m rise. Antarctica, if it melted completely, would contribute 78m. At its worst, that's about 250 ft. Since currently, about 75% of all cities are located within 250ft of current sea level, most present-day cities will be underwater.

There is a difference although he does not seem bright enough to know that.
