Big Biz Says Screw You With Big a Texas Longhorn To Guv's Ban on Vax Mandates

Just a day after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order barring businesses and other private entities in his state from requiring COVID-19 vaccinations for employees, several major companies have said they will defy his ban and follow federal guidelines instead.

The Texas-based companies—including American Airlines, Southwest, and Dell Technologies—said they're planning to still require, with few exceptions, that employees under federal contracts abide by federal rules and get vaccinated.

Curtis Blessing, a spokesperson for American Airlines which is headquartered in Texas, told The Daily Beast in a statement on Tuesday that the airlines company would be “reviewing” Abbott’s order but that it wouldn’t change the company’s posture on vaccines.

Emily Laderman, a Dell Technologies spokesperson, similarly told The Daily Beast in a statement that the company planned to reopen its remaining sites beginning in January next year—and its U.S.-based teams supporting federal contracts would still be subject to Biden’s federal requirement for vaccines.

I do not like bug biz being looked at as the moral compass. Me thinks abbott has been pushed the direction he has taken so that corporate America looks like the good guys looking out for the little guys and we the people end us giving them more trust than they ever fucking deserve.

BUT, we have to take it don’t we? We have to appreciate the move that keeps people safe. I just hope the American people don’t fall too in love with the corporate class.

I may be dated on this, but when I studied this years and years ago, the Governor was one of the least powerful positions in Texas. I don't think a Texas Governor's executive order can even mandate the firing of a teacher and unless the teacher is a coach, they have to walk a pretty thin line with no one in their corner to save them. A loud parent can make a teacher's life hell.

Indirectly a Governor has some crazy big perks. A Governor can put friends in positions where they can rake in amazing profits. A well placed friend can go from rags to owning a bank and a major football team.
