I wish they would stop...

Showing people getting the shot. Seriously, I have a major cringe every time I see a needle piercing someone's skin.

I got my shot, didn't watch. I suspect seeing it on endless loops on teevee can dissuade people from getting it if they are triggered by seeing it so often.

You’ve made an excellent point. There are people who have definite needle phobias and this doesn’t help.

… with a big ol’ needle in its adorable chubby thigh.

If I was in charge I’d be showing photos and videos of seriously ill infants and children, crying from the itchy measles and chicken pox, limp with high fevers, coughing uncontrollably from whooping cough.

Anti-vaxxer mommies think doctors and old ladies like me are just meanies.

doesn't help either. Done properly into a fully relaxed arm feels exactly the same as no shot at all.

I didn't feel it either time, same person gave it to me too. By the time I was telling her I was ready she told me she was done and putting on a bandaid.

I so admire that woman's skill.

That helps a lot. But the big thing is relaxing the arm. Don't be afraid to ask for a moment to let you do that. Take a few deep breaths and let that arm go limp. That relaxation will prevent a lot of the pain that can happen after the shot, too.

Watching that needle going all the way in is intimidating. In fact, when I got mine I told the nurse that from what I saw on TV, I expected it to hurt. For some reason the Shingles shot was a lot worse, both getting the shot and the sore arm for a week. Even the regular flu shot hurt less. The visuals are terrible though. They really need to stop showing it, or at least speak with the recipients after they got the shot and hear that it hardly hurt at all.

And neither of us is needle averse.

But fer cryin' out loud! Everybody knows what a shot in the arm looks like!

There's no need for TV news to show it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again!

I have pierced ear lobes and a few earthworm tattoos (scars from incisions) on my belly. I have also been getting extensive dental work done under IV anesthesia recently but they have to gas me up real good and give me another med orally before showing up with the IV or any other pokey things... I have to be pretty well on my way to unconscious for that part.

I am brave enough to get shots when I need them, but I can't watch or see the device or it's heart attack time, or close to it, for me.
