1. I have never had jackfruit,

I have seen it only one time in the local grocery store and no one seemed to know what to do with it.

2. I've had fresh jackfruit

It's available at 99 Ranch, a west coast grocery chain that caters to Chinese and other East Asian customers. It starts off as a very big oblong fruit, but once you peel it and remove the large seeds and the sticky unedible parts (good luck getting that off you're hands) you're left with a medium bowl of what tastes like a mediocre melon.

Dried jackfruit has recently become popular among vegans, since it apparently has a taste something like pork. I've heard of it being used as a substitute for carnitas in tacos.

3. When I was living in SE Asia, we had jackfruit

It is ok but I don't find it has a lot of taste to it. There is much better fruit than that. My favourite was mangosteen.
