They are intimidating anyone who does not support their insanity. It is a replay of what has transpired throughout history. The honest, law abiding citizens who believe that law will prevail are sadly disillusioned. There is no one capable of halting the madness and magically able of restoring peaceful resolution. The voice of reason has been suffocated and silenced. We are under attack and constrained by our faith in law and order to come to the rescue; we are losing by default.
The Trump Thugs are not met with massive resistance, but are given free reign to drive honest civil servants from office, pass draconian laws as law abiding good citizens watch helplessly as their liberties are undermined and destroyed. The warnings of what is in store for the nation are numerous and met with shrugs by the majority who are unable to grasp the enormity of the situation that is growing daily without restraint. The Thump Thugs become increasingly more embolden and threatening. It has even spread to the work place, neighborhoods and even in the schools where children are being intimated by classmates. Civil servants that refuse to support ridiculous charges of voter fraud are being driven from office.
It can't happen here, but it is.

(8,200 posts)There are always going to be fringe groups who can be contained and controlled. But what happens when an seemingly major party is coming under the influence of what was considered until recent relatively unorganized splinter groups of delusional misfits? This is the new reality. Even though the majority of Republicans may not be extremists they are allowing the ultra-right to dominate their party without any major challenge. The voices of reason have been limited to a handful who have been vilified without any significant condemnation from those god-fearing, law and order Republicans whose silence only provides tacit approval for the extremists. We have witnessed the rise of authorial right-wing governments in numerous countries who were staunch supports of liberal governments until very recently. We are not insulated from the same happening here. I can only hope that for our sake it proves to be short lived and is drowned out by reason. Unfortunately, hope may not be forthcoming.

(32,755 posts)25% of voters out of 168 million identify as gqp. 42 million.
Only 44% of gqp voters support tfg = 18.8%
60+% of all voters say it would be bad for the country if tfg ran again
None of this is good for him
Instead of listening to the outrage the msm is feeding ppl..why not VOLUNTEER, DONATE and VOTE!

(14,563 posts)I don't mean to tear down people here who care and are fighting it.
But, the overwhelming number of people who voted Joe left it at that and went on with their lives.
The Rs know this, and continue the push.
There is no grand awakening, people just had enough to turn off the 45 show that that time.

(8,200 posts)While we can find reassurance in the election of Biden and Trump's defeat there are still millions of voters who backed him and continue to support the insanity. Meanwhile the Republican are passing some of the most draconian laws to pave the way for voter suppression and their hopeful reelection of Trump. I still find it depressing that there has not been a massive reaction to these assaults, such as in the case of abortion rights and voting suppression. I tend to agree with an earlier response that the Democrats elected Biden and are taking a nap while the Republican are busy destroying the Republic.
