(3,626 posts)While your governor is selectively killing your own voters, a 2% death rate isn't normally enough to swing an election, if you're depending on razor thin margins to keep majorities in all those creatively drawn districts you might be in for a nasty shock when the next election rolls around. There is such a thing as being too clever by half.

(26,731 posts)While the two new districts were always likely to be red, the fear was that they would reach for more - which would indeed have potentially endangered their seats later as they spread their voters too thin.
What appears to have happened is that they focused on protecting the existing majorities. They took one seat that was R+5 and three that were below R+10 and boosted them substantially so that they would still be safe later in the decade. On the new map, only one republican incumbent would hold a seat that was less than R+20

(34,488 posts)I'm in Texas and the only thing I can do is continue to inform family and friends that are not paying attention of how republicans here are running scared and doing everything they can to keep Texas red.
