I have been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer.
I've enjoyed being here for the past 13+ years.
Hug your family. Hug your pets. Fight the good fight and make good trouble.
I am sorry that I will not be here to help.
Good luck to you all.

Updating this thread just to let everyone know that I am absolutely floored by all the well wishes and encouragement coming from you guys. I WILL post the good and the bad over the next few (or perhaps several) days. Fingers crossed!

One of my brothers-in-law is having open heart surgery today today. The last thing he told me last night was ''it is what it is".
Hope you are as comfortable as possible. We must also HUG our DU friends

(42,862 posts)You didn't mention your age, but I can share with you that a former colleague of mine is now in his late 60's and he's a 7-year survivor of pancreatic cancer. It's been tough for him, but he's a fighter. Chemo, radiation, surgery. The cancer-free for a few years... then some "quick" chemo. He's again cancer-free. Not easy, but doable. Sending strength and courage your way.

(3,056 posts)When my husband was going through treatment, I got to do a lot of reading. One of the articles was about how you need to ignore "survival rates". It doesn't matter what the survival rate of any particular cancer is, 5%, 50%, or whatever. What's important is that if you're part of that percentage, YOUR survival rate is 100%. You easily could be. Stay strong. Besides, you want to be here with us when Trump goes down for good. We've got you.

(30,807 posts)And remember, much as everyone likens cancer to a battle that must be fought, you actually are sick with an illness.
It is not in your control to win or lose a war against some evil enemy. These are your own cells that accidentally went awry. You can't let people insist that you must 'fight' them off by sheer willpower.
You can choose to undergo treatments, or not. The errant cells will either respond to treatments, or not.
Very best of luck to you, and I hope today goes well.

(4,385 posts)DUers hugs with whom you've shared and the energy of our thoughts for your care going forward. I lost my brother last month, but his pancreatic cancer situation was compounded by DM and advanced liver disease, NAFLD/NASH. To treat one would have made the other worse...toxins, like chemo and/or the inflammation of radiation, you know, and so he entered hospice care. Already advanced, liver transplantation was not an option. Despite that, a miracle did occur, because we were reconciled, visited, and talked on the phone after a long estrangement. The way it worked out, his passing may mean a better, easier, longer life for another younger leaf on our family tree...so hang in there, snort, and be well...you're on our team as we fight it together with love and hope in our hearts for you.

(4,673 posts)she had a 1% survival chance. That was close to 20 years ago. Have learned with my own cancer that statistics don't tell us much about what our story will be. I've been on the right, and wrong, side of statistics so much - and I'm talking in the 1-5% range.
You sound like you have coexisting fight and peace, which is as close to perfect a place to be as I can think of. Profound journey, wherever it takes you. My friend's husband was diagnosed with stage 4 a few years ago, his had spread to the liver. He chose treatments and Mayo Clinic bought him 3 years. The best part being, they were good years, the treatments were not hard on him & he was able to stay active until about 3 weeks before the end. It's a tough diagnosis but some progress is being made.
Whether you choose treatments or pallitave care, I wish you the best.
