Rob Skiba, an influential figure in flat earth and Christian circles, has died of COVID-19, colleagues announced on Thursday. He had been fighting the virus since at least late August, when he began exhibiting symptoms after Take On The World, a biblical flat earth conference. He has been sick since coming back from TOTW, a Facebook friend posted in early September, adding that Skiba had been hospitalized for low oxygen levels. One of the countrys most prominent advocates of Flat Earth Theory, Skiba was also skeptical of COVID-19 vaccines and some of the illness treatments. On the first day of the Take On The World conference, Skiba authored a Facebook post suggesting that the COVID-19 vaccines were dangerous.
To those who disagree with my position on our current situation... One of us is right, he wrote. Unless YHWH miraculously intervenes, based on what Im seeing/hearing, the one scenario that really does appear to be coming into focus is the likelihood that within Id say 2 to 3 years or so... one of us will probably be dead. Truly, I take no joy in saying this, nor will I if I'm the one still standing.
Skibas community memorialized him on social media. Whether you agree or disagree with him on a particular subject, you cant help but love his genuine, authentic, loving, disarming, comical approach to very polarizing content, a friend wrote in tribute. What a great teacher.
*the end, literally*

(1,779 posts)what does it take to cheer the death of another human?

(1,779 posts)first of all, I held my words and kept it as non-offensive as I could considering the point. That is the civil thing to do. To "disparage" you was not the intent, but instead, to point out the singular taboo behavior. It was not an overall assessment of you as a person. I don't even know you and that wouldn't be fair at all. I don't even know if you are a nurse as your username implies. But if you are, that is yet another facet of this. Medical professionals don't generally celebrate the death of people they don't like, it is in fact frowned upon. I think you already understand this. I also think you are most likely not a bad person and understand the terrible message that is conveyed when you say things like that out loud.
I wont elaborate further, you obviously disagree with my assessment, but you did ask. I choose to not behave that way, I'd much rather appeal to others than to let them know I will celebrate their death if it happens. Hopefully you just say these things in jest, something I suppose we all do from time to time.

(42,862 posts)Televangelists, talk radio hosts, politicians, bloggers, youtube "stars"... they're doing more damage than simply "killing themselves". These aren't anonymous anti-vaxxers who suffer in silence. They're SPREADING MISINFORMATION!! They deserve ZERO SYMPATHY and ZERO COMPASSION. Honestly, they can all burn in hell.

(42,862 posts)Here you go! Anti-vaxxers contribute to horrors like this...

... I'm not in the mood to coddle an converse-politely and try to appeal with those idiots. When anti-vaxxers die, so does their justification. When an anti-vax mouthpiece dies, the chorus of lies and toxicity dies along with them. Their followers won't be persuaded with calm and rational discussion and pleading. They need to see their flat-earth tinfoil hat wearing HEROES dropping dead before it will make a difference.
Let them ALL die. No pity. They brought this on themselves. It's what they WANTED! I rejoice in the demise of each and every anti-vaxxer. The sooner they're gone, the sooner the lies will stop.

(1,779 posts)who went to his funeral and was spouting off about how he was glad the kid was dead and that he deserved it, and that more kids like him should die.
Sounds like a really crappy person, doesn't it?
Anyway, i'm not going to carry on with you about this. it's a horrible thing to say about other people, no matter how much you dislike or disagree with them.
NurseJackie
(42,862 posts)What I don't understand, however, is why it is that I'm being falsely accused of "going to funerals" and "spouting off" at anti-vaxxers. Come on, now! My online taunting and ridicule and expressions of joy are hardly the same. What an absurd comparison. There's nothing at all analogous about that. Good lord.
Nobody is carrying tri-color fluorescent "GOD HATES ANTI-VAXXERS" signs at funerals. (But if this shit keeps up, I could easily imagine it happening.)
Odd word to use... "disagree". That suggests that they have valid points. It's a subtle way of making a "both sides" argument. It's coddling. It's excusing. It's pandering to. It's unnecessarily sympathetic to members of a fucking DEATH CULT who are spreading lies and (literally) spreading the virus to others. They're serving as human incubators for the next mutation and even MORE virulent strain of Covid.
They're doing this willingly and with contempt and spite. They don't deserve "respect" or "sympathy" or "concern" or "understanding" ... what they deserve is the fulfillment of their own death wish. It's what they want. I'm happy for them. Rejoice!

(1,779 posts)I accused you of none of that.
I accused you of claiming moral authority over the actions of others (and I don't care HOW stupid they are, that's not the point) and cheering their deaths because of it. I tried to give you a simple example of the opposite and even that went over your head. Then you read a bunch or words that I didn't even say.
Doesn't MATTER what the reason is or how much you dislike a certain behavior, it's a really shitty thing to cheer over the death of another person. I just hope to I'm never in a place where I have to rely on a nurse who thinks like you.
At first I thought you said this just to the value and didn't really mean it. And if you don't think that is a horrible thing to say about another person, I am uninterested in discussing anything further with you.

(42,862 posts)Let the anti-vaxxers die. It's what they want. The sooner the better. Let their anti-vax message die with them.
Good riddance to them!

(42,302 posts)In this case, how many people were infected by this idiot?
I'm not a nurse but I did work in healthcare for a long time and keep in touch with some of my former co-workers. Some of these nurses lost their entire families during the early, pre-vaccine days of Covid and kept on working. Now they are being threatened and spat upon while they care for dead-enders like this idiot.
I reserve my sympathy for them. The flat earther should have died at home and saved the care team more grief.

But I'm not going to cheer about it and wish more of them would die. That would make me just as bad (if not worse) as them, and I'm better than them. I hope you are as well.
