Pentagon Tells Greg Abbott To Stick It And Orders Defense Contractors To Get COVID Vaccine
https://www.politicususa.com/2021/10/14/greg-abbott-pentagon.html
"SNIP......
The Pentagon has told federal contractors in Texas that Greg Abbotts order doesnt matter and they must get vaccinated.
Here was the guidance to defense contractors in Texas:
.....
Greg Abbott Does Not Have The Legal Authority To Supercede Federal Law
This is basic civics. Greg Abbott as a governor does not have the power or authority to supersede federal law/executive orders. Joe Biden is the President Of The United States. His vaccine mandate takes authority over any order that Abbott has or could issue.
Gov. Abbott cant stop federal contractors in his state from getting the vaccine.
It is called the Supremacy Clause. It is in the Constitution. Federal law is the supreme law of the land. Joe Biden has the authority to set the terms and conditions of employment for federal contractors.

(82,849 posts)He can use his failing grade in Civics as a badge of honor that a majority of Texans will admire him for. May God help the voters of Texas put a Democrat in his place if I'm wrong.

(32,628 posts)Why should these employers put up with this shit? Is Abbott going to cover their liability if they get sued?

(25,238 posts)Many of these contractors are incorporated in other states and only have satellite locations in Texas. For example: Boeing
Abbott can't tell Boeing what to do because they're based in another state.
If a defense contractor is incorporated in Texas, (such as a portion of Exxon/Mobil..who probably supply jet fuel to the military) Abbott won't bother to sue them because he knows he will probably lose.
Also he probably can't dictate corporate policies for many retailers and corporations based in another states. For instance if Delta Airlines requires vaccines for ticket agents who happen to be based in Texas, I don't think he can tell them what to do. If Target and/or Costco require employees to be vaccinated, I don't think Abbott can supercede their corporate policies because those policies come from another state.

According to Merriam- Webster dictionary:
Supercede has occurred as a spelling variant of supersede since the 17th century, and it is common in current published writing.

(47,397 posts)These republican governors are acting like tin-pot dictators. They think they have more power than they do or at least they want their voters to believe that. It appears that there are not rules anymore.

(118,609 posts)cases dance has pissed off both sides of Alberta voters. Taxi driver I had thinks he'll be gone in a few months. He also probably helped Liberal Trudeau win the federal election. Voters as far away as Toronto suburbs were like **** that **** and shut out conservatives. So it is possible to beat these monsters. Just keep fighting. And sharing.

(19,037 posts)We have major government contracts. Get vaccinated or youre fired, no severance.
People dont realize is there are two orders in play. This one for government contractors that is more cut and dry, you have a mandate or you dont get your government contracts, period. And the other one from OSHA that has the companies less than 100 employees exception as well as people opting for regular testing rather than getting vaccinated.
20% of adults have a problem with this, time fir us to stop worrying about the 20% and start protecting the 80%.
