(6,261 posts)Because I remember that show too. Alf Garnett was far less cuddly and the whole family was far nastier and much less cuddly and sentimental than the Bunkers, though I appreciated both shows for what they were.
Skittles
(170,209 posts)I loved that show
Ron Obvious
(6,261 posts)Though I know it was the basis for Sanford & Son, of course.
There was also Man about the House, which was almost word for word remade as Three's Company, though with better teeth.
Skittles
(170,209 posts)LOL, I still remember my grandad covering my eyes during "naughty bits"

(6,261 posts)We always recognise one another, e.g. with "Look, this isn't an argument" or "I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition"

(170,209 posts)last year, in line at a department store - there was a big bra left on the belt, the checkout gal asked if it was mine and I laughed and said, the gal that belongs to, (and i gestured with my hands)...she has HUGE......TRACTS OF LAND! There was a group of teenagers behind me and one of them busted out laughing and shouted MONTY PYTHON! I was sooooooo impressed.

(17,460 posts)I still laugh out loud when watching the reruns. As someone else said, it was the background that gave it away for me. Took me a few seconds though.

(35,564 posts)I loved the episode when Sammy Davis Junior kissed Carol OConor on the check right before a photo was snapped.
This was just the best show on TV at that time, and damn, I AM OLD.

(1,000 posts)Where Los Angeles of 1974 movies, TV (specifically All In The Family and MASH),music (Laurel Canyon) and movies, changed politics and brought us out of the post WWII into post Vietnam. I watched both MASH and All In The Family as a kid. LOL, my Grandmother was deeply suspicious that they were making fun of poor old Archie. I said nothing.
