Because I remember that show too. Alf Garnett was far less cuddly and the whole family was far nastier and much less cuddly and sentimental than the Bunkers, though I appreciated both shows for what they were.

Though I know it was the basis for Sanford & Son, of course.

There was also Man about the House, which was almost word for word remade as Three's Company, though with better teeth.

last year, in line at a department store - there was a big bra left on the belt, the checkout gal asked if it was mine and I laughed and said, the gal that belongs to, (and i gestured with my hands)...she has HUGE......TRACTS OF LAND! There was a group of teenagers behind me and one of them busted out laughing and shouted MONTY PYTHON! I was sooooooo impressed.

Where Los Angeles of 1974 movies, TV (specifically All In The Family and MASH),music (Laurel Canyon) and movies, changed politics and brought us out of the post WWII into post Vietnam. I watched both MASH and All In The Family as a kid. LOL, my Grandmother was deeply suspicious that they were making fun of poor old Archie. I said nothing.
