...or not.
Michael Caine is taking his final bow.
The two-time Academy Award winner, 88, announced his retirement from acting Friday on the BBC Radio show Kermode and Mayo's Film Review, following what will be his final onscreen appearance in the new film Best Sellers.
"Funnily enough, it has turned out to be what is my last part, really," he explained. "Because I haven't worked for two years, and I have a spine problem, which affects my legs. So, I can't walk very well.
"And I also wrote a book, a couple of books, which were published and were successful. So, I'm now not an actor, I'm a writer, which is lovely because as an actor, you have to get up at half past 6 in the morning and go to the studio. As a writer, you can start writing without leaving the bed," Caine added.

We have not seen the last of Michael Caine onscreen, after all.
While the legendary actor made waves Friday when an interview surfaced in which he said the recently released comedy-drama Best Sellers would be his last film, TheWrap has confirmed with Caines representatives that he is not fully retiring.
Funnily enough, it has turned out to be my last part, really, Caine said in reference to Best Sellers during an interview with Simon Mayo. Because I havent worked for two years and I have a spine problem which affects my legs so I cant walk very well. And I also wrote a couple of books which were published and were successful, so Im now not an actor Im a writer.

Its possible Caine was being playful or merely referring to starring roles, however, as he also added, Theres not exactly scripts pouring out with a leading man whos 88.

(26,403 posts)Not a leading man, but certainly someone who can add spice and wit with the right script. He also still has his voice, so perhaps his wonderful cant can still be heard for many years into the future.

(24,286 posts)IIRC, never had a problem with Caine's dialogue

(26,403 posts)Though he can shift to a South London accent and vocabulary when he chooses to do so - something which is a bit more understandable.
On Edit: He knows how to make himself understood without having to give up something he considered core to himself.
On Edit v2: removed the damned past tense - he's alive and kicking and being wonderful as I type!

(24,286 posts)But for someone who knew Mr. Caine's work for 60 years....blows my cosmically small mind.

So many great movies over the years. I want him to go on forever. *sigh* I think I'll read his books.
