Can we pause for a moment to discuss challenged books?

I am a middle school librarian in NC.

https://ltgov.nc.gov/about/mark-robinson

Somehow, this college dropout (UNCG- "studied history" ) who has had issues with paying bills and the IRS got elected to the Lt. Governor position in our state. Despite his sketchy job history, he managed to buy a house worth about $350,000. (NC Voter Lookup).

The redneck "OMG- my TAX MONEY" halfwits voted for him. Whatever. I am busy. Children are back in school, and I have over a thousand chromes to deal with. This clown was off my radar...because, you know....I am busy.

But, oh fucking no. These "conservative" fuckwits can't just sit in their goddamned lanes and STFU enjoying their McMansions.... oh hell fucking no. They have to wonder what we librarians are doing other than trying to weed our shelves of old books. writing lesson plans, making sure that our teachers and students are trained in research methods...etc....Personally, I had a class that involved modeling clay, and I am trying to dig it out of the carpet. So, I log onto my monthly district librarian meeting- and have to hear that we have a statewide book challenge. Here are the three books:

Gender Queer
Lawn Boy
George

Now, I have to stop what I am doing and worry about the books in my collection and whether the children have access to them.

George IS held in several libraries in the district.

The other two are only available in the public libraries in the district. They are adult literature, and would never be in a middle school library.

Thanks to this fuckwit, I am now on Facebook telling parents "we do NOT have those two books, and the description of "George" is not accurate.

What the FUCK is up with conservatives and books? Leave readers alone.

Conservatives, at least the type you describe, don't read much. People attack what they don't understand.

always their business even when they have never engaged with that media themselves. Just hearing that it exists in the world is enough to drive them to distraction... It's an admission of a weak, small mind and a fragile illusion of self.

More accurately, they're right-wing authoritarians.

And they don't need to copy the behavior of the Nazis at all. Their right-wing authoritarian personalities will simply produce similar results. It's like convergent evolution between two different species, with their environments and their natural tendencies evolving into the same kind of killing monstrosities.

As a kid I went through entire shelves in our school library.

By the time I was in Middle School, I read every book someone condemned. I would find a way to get it and read it. Partly because I love to read and mostly because if someone told me I shouldn’t read it, it became irresistible.
