My company pays manufacturing $20 an hour - jumping to $25 after 6 months. Add in annual bonus - and there are people who here, married here, saved here, and outright bought homes in New Jersey.

Besides that workers wages in real dollars have been declining for years. My first union construction job paid about $5 an hour plus full benefits. With inflation of about 1000% since then that would be over $50.00 per hour. That was for a laborer with no training or specific skills. Once you enter a contract your wages are frozen. but the company can always raise prices. That is why I am no fan of 5 year contracts.
