Thinking on the devastation of unjust war and of willfully unchecked disease this AM.
At 84, Powell was vaccinated but it was ultimately not enough against delta/COVID that is still spreading across America. The message remains tho: #GetVaccinated to protect the most vulnerable.
needs to be said over and over......

(34,069 posts)Powell is one of those who can't build an effective immune respons to the vaccine - i.e. the very reason we need nearly everyone else to be immunized (to protect those who can't protect themselves)

(10,163 posts)If Powell lived in New Zealand or another country that made a great effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, would he have lived longer?
Because Covid was allowed to run wild for a year and a half until we developed the vaccine; because idiots refused to get vaccinated or even wear a simple mask, the virus has spread to people who can not develop an immune system.

(2,957 posts)Powell was suffering from multiple myeloma which is a cancer that attacks white blood cells. This condition just about kills the immune system. So, ANY illness - even the relatively mild symptoms from a covid breakthorugh infection - could cause death.
I'm worried that the anti-vax dick-heads will jump on this to support their "sound science" that people die from covid even though they've been vaccinated. Powell's case is a very, very special case with the intersection of a lot of adverse interventions of illness.
