For the first time in my lifetime, American workers hold some power of employers. Wages are increasing at near record rates right now. Pay workers well and they'll show up and allow your business to make money.

Eventually the worker shortage will end, but right now all I see are people finally having a little control over where they work.

There are so many options right now, best I have ever seen the job market since I started working in the early 90’s.

I worked as a department specialist and had about 12 employees. I went to a meeting..which was on my schedule..and came back to..”where have you been”. I explained my absence for the few hours n was basically called a thief..they said I could have been to the salon or wherever. I quit. Before I left that day, the higher ups came and apologized and as a compensation, told me to take the week off with pay for their mistakes. I took the week off and came back and quit again. I might be a lot of things but I’m no thief.

Personally, I found it is best to look for another job while you have a job. I was a 3rd shift computer operator in South Florida. I stayed in my job for 2 years and saw that it was not for me. I found another 3rd shift job with better pay and perks. 3 years later the programmer I was working with was moonlighting there and had a job at another company. He got me the job where he worked which paid better, 4 weeks vacation or paid for what I didn't use, 11 holidays plus time and a half if I worked, 6 sick days, or paid for what I didn't use. Full free medical with no copay. 1 and 1/2% of gross pay into my 401K and 6% half matching the 12% I put in.

Some still young may regret it later, but for now...

I can imagine epiphanies in many households triggered by being forced to "struggle" on only one income, or what could be forced early retirement in others, and discovering the luxury of additional freedom and free time after years devoted to serving the beast.
