that in kinder, gentler days, people would give the death of a famous person at least a day of tribute and/or sadness before bashing his/her record. But, alas, we're all so angry these days.

(10,429 posts)I agree with post #4 and #5. It depends on the individual. In this case, I think Powell was a generally decent man who went along with a terrible mistake and allowed his reputation to be exploited.
He may not deserve the scorn Limbaugh did, or Cheney will. But had he not gone along and given legitimacy to BushCheneyCo, how many millions of Iraqis would be alive or still in their homes? How many Americans? Where would we be now if BushCheneyCo and the republicons hadn't been empowered then?
The consequences of that mistake were terrible. I don't plan to disparage him personally, but I can understand those who do.

(102,225 posts)the deeply flawed. The latter include those whose mistakes led to lifelong regret-- despite the (no denying) cost to all of us.
I said and thought nothing when Limbaugh died to much-deserved excoriation. Nor will I be likely to say a word in response to posts on Cheney or Trump or so many truly foul figures during their "final repose"-- no matter what is said.
But, I'd like to think we could still see differences among those with whom we vehemently disagreed during most or all of their lifetime.

(9,186 posts)Colin Powell's passing is sad. He did try to turn his life around after the Iraq war fiasco confessing e made a huge mistake. he went on later to disparage the GOP for betraying Americans.

Scalia was in position of power
Even then, my grave dancing over Scalia's death didn't turn out too well.
Colin Powell was out of public life for awhile. I see no reason to say negative things about him because, his public influence has been gone for quite awhile.

Scalia was on the supreme court ruining lives when he died.
It also opened up a vacancy on the supreme court
Colin Powell's death doesn't change anything in the world.
