How to Get Your News Direct from the Source
If you're like most people, you follow the news closely on a daily basis. I know that I do. However, news media outlets have only so much space and time. Because of that, a great deal of very interesting news goes unnoticed. That's especially true when the news relates to government organizations and Departments. For every story you see on network news, MSNBC, CNN, your local or statewide newspaper, and in other media, there are many other stories that are never brought to the public.
The reality is that there are too many stories to cover, so many simply don't make the news, except locally, perhaps.
The good news is that every government agency, department, law enforcement organizations, military branches and most other government bodies issue press releases on a daily basis that the news media relies on as sources for their coverage. Even better news is that you can access those press releases yourself, direct from the sources. Here's how to do that:
1. Go to the main website for the organization.
2. At the top of its home page, look for tabs for "News," "Media," Public "Information Office," or "Press Releases." Clicking that tab or menu entry will take you to a page where such releases are listed, generally in chronological order, with the most recent releases at the top of the page.
3. As an alternative, you can search the internet for the agency or department along with the words Press Releases. That will usually get you a direct link to the appropriate page.
Be prepared to see lots and lots of press releases about things you never heard about. Like I said, media outlets can only cover a small percentage of the news generated by those Public Information Offices. Who knows, you might find yourself better informed than you ever thought you could be.
