big proliferation of American flags in front of houses around here

Is there some sort of "code" being spread around? We've lived in this area for two years - are often heading out to the parks for hikes. The last few months, it seems most houses are now prominently flying flags - just seems odd to me, and wondering if this is some sort of directive or tell among the unhinged wingnuts. Seems lots of people are afraid others will be confused about what country we live in?

Anyone else noticing this?

people weren't off the rails, the people in town were fairly evenly divided between D&R and it was, well, still a small town where everyone is related to everyone else, but not terrible.

It is terrible now, filled with MAGATs.

Lots of American flags on all the usual vehicles, and in front yards where Trump banners used to fly. Perhaps it's some sort of secret handshake among the MAGAT crowd, and right wing media has been pushing the idea of late. I'll start to worry when I see swastikas.

No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

(a)The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

(b)The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.
What if it is 'accidentally' knocked from your grip while storming the United States Capitol building and trying to use your flag as a jousting lance? Does that count? Asking for a "friend", of course...

(c)The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.

(d)The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker’s desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.
Hmmm...where have I seen THIS rule violated the most? I just can't seem to recall...seems like a few people wearing the flag as a cape was on the TV box back in January...

(e)The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.
Kinda rules out flying them on pick-up trucks in bad weather or while "rolling coal"... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolling_coal

(f)The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling.

(g)The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.
This absolutely rules out the bastardization of the US flag for "Blue Lives Matter" and its derivations...

(h)The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.
I'm not sure...would using the flag to break windows and beat police officers fit here? or more appropriately somewhere else?

(i)The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.
Not that Trump cares a whit...but he and his whole fucking campaign of riotous looters abuse the symbols of Old Glory more than any 10 other people in history...

(j)No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.
Is Hannity still compliant with his modified assortment of multiple lapel pins and flags with superimposed images?

(k)The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.
I would say that ALL flags are tarnished by the actions of the January 6th rioters and unless REAL justice is laid upon the organizers and influencers that egged it on and stoked the fires while it went on, well then we may have to burn them all and start over with a new flag...

But we've flown one beore specifically so those who don't know what our nation is meant to stand for don't own it. Our house can't be seen from the road, though, and it's at a the end of a very quiet road where few arrive. We'd have one up now if we lived where others could see it.

flag waving, or even flying.

I feel like it really is all luck - where we are born, who are families are - for me this goes to religion, too.

I know where I live - I don't need a flag to show me that. From my view, nationalism causes as many problems as it can help solve

In general, I am just exhausted by it all - the overall dysfunctionality and sickness of what today's politics is all about.

on the porch post on the other side to give a good clue to what we were about. We're in no danger of being carried away by nationalism. We do believe there's much to be proud, built on, and protected from destruction by barbarians, but like anything else it needs tending by those who believe in it.

Flag code is also respected. It’s what our family does and a family tradition we maintain. Neighbors thoughts about it aren’t considered.

I do notice when the flag is flown properly by neighbors and in the neighborhood. Beautiful thing to see.
