I suspect it was necessary in order to put into effect seizing property (estate) and including all property assets, not necessarily for "evidence" per se, but for confiscating the estate.
Selling the property in a future auction after a period of time when all other legal T's are crossed and the i's dotted. an issuance of a warrant was the first, initial necessary procedure.
In other words, they weren't there expecting to find devices and documents etc.. they just needed to conduct the raid as per legal and policy procedure before ultimately seizing property under forfeiture laws, I suspect.
Just guessing... given no other updates that I can find on yesterday's raid.
Any legal eagles point to flaws in this speculation in terms of legality and procedure? other than we don't know, because they're not saying yet?

(7,278 posts)Preserving evidence assumes there was evidence left on that property to preserve, which common sense would suggest otherwise, given that he hasn't occupied the property in a number of years.. Deripaska never gave me the impression he was that stupid.
Maybe I'm wrong, though.
I get the messaging thing to Russia Ski Noise. For sure.

(7,278 posts)from what I recall reading in years past. But I'd be hard pressed to come up with a number or the locations off the top of my head.
I'm wondering if this was the only property/address they were able to get a search warrant for? if they were on their game, a coordinated search for all of the properties should have been conducted simultaneously.
I suppose that only happens in the movies where the good guys usually win.

(2,570 posts)There should have been huge push back and outrage but our Republican loving media kept silent instead of bringing attention to it.
That is openly calling the Senate Minority leader a traitor, to Congress and the Nation, no one mentioned it.
And there is so much bullsh** being flung by so many not many noticed how unusual the statement was.

(7,278 posts)Tonight I have tuned in to msnbc programming, which I haven't done since shortly after Jan 6th.
The topic of course is largely about Steve Bannon, Manchin, the Filibuster. Steve Swartz on Ari Berman's show bringing home the point that our democracy is in peril. Just as much as it was while TFG was occupying the White House, (my words).
I'm totally freaked out at this juncture that we are soon to return to the harrowing nightmare we all just thought was behind us.
In fact I made the decision to "drop out and tune in" to stuff that nourishes my soul. Then tonight I find myself right back to pre and post election heightened alert mode.
The fact that the media essentially ignored Pelosi's reference to Moscow Mitch, was not repeated because they the media would have to deal with the underlying point of it. They refuse to go there. It might mean they'd have to do the story.
Why wouldn't they want to do that story? We could speculate until the cows come home, and it wouldn't change anything.
