That is all.

(7,737 posts)That whole family is creepy. Wish Gabby had left his ass when the cops pulled them over.
The father did show law enforcement Brian's favored areas about a week ago. But today, they were brought out to identify his belomgings, which law enforcement had located hours earlier.

(73,528 posts)only confirmed that partial human remains and some of Brian's belongings were found. They did not identify what body parts were found. If a head/skull is among them, they will definitely use dental records. If not, they will use DNA.

(73,528 posts)Good afternoon, josh Taylor with the North Port Police Department. Thank you for your continued diligence on this story and thanks for your patience. As you know, the North Port Police Department has worked collaboratively with the FBI throughout this investigation. So a special agent, Michael Mcpherson is going to make a prepared statement. There's not gonna be any questions today, but hopefully it answers some of them. Thank you. Good afternoon. My name is Michael Mcpherson. I'm the special agent in charge of the FBI Tampa division. As you're aware, the FBI and the North Port Police Department and our State and local law enforcement partners have been searching the area of the Carlton reserve for brian laundry. A person of interest in the murder of Gabby Petito. Earlier today, investigators found what appears to be human remains although with personal items such as a backpack and notebook belonging to bryan laundry. These items were found in an area that up until recently have been underwater. Our evidence response team is on scene using all available forensic resources to process the area. It's likely the team will be on scene for several days. I know you have a lot of questions but we don't have all the answers yet. We are working diligently to get those answers for you. We are grateful for the dedication and professionalism of the North Port Police Department along with our partners from the state and local agencies complex investigations such as this cannot be accomplished by what agency alone, but there's just too many agencies to name them all here today. Portions of the Myakka Hatchery Creek Environment Park and Carlton Reserve remain closed to the public until further notice this is an active and ongoing investigation. So we ask the public to maintain distance from any law enforcement personnel, equipment, vehicles and other related activity for the safety of the public and to protect the integrity of our work. We have no additional comment related to today's activities. Our FBI Denver Office is the lead investigative agency and all future inquiries should be directed to them. We appreciate the tremendous support from the public and continue to ask for your assistance and bring in this investigation too close. Thank you with the backpack found here. The Justice for Gabby Justice, Justice Justice, Justice Justice.
Perhaps a media person said that about the dental record. But the FBI did not.

(14,971 posts)about the FBI Denver Office. I thought he said dental, lol.
H2O Man
(73,528 posts)they will be using all forensic resources. If the head/skull is found, and is largely intact -- meaning teeth being there -- that could be verified by Brian's dentist. And I hope that is it. But besides that, the pathologist will determine manner of death, which is almost certainly homicide. It seems highly unlikely it will be ruled a natural death. And the type of homicide is most likely to be suicide, although there is another highly unlikely possibility.
What a tragic story. I've watched a bit of coverage on WFLA, and am thinking of contacting them to give answers to a few questions they have.

(14,971 posts)It's all very interesting.
H2O Man
(73,528 posts)though they all are. Some of the things that announcers I was watching say "do not make sense" actually do make perfect sense. But I recognize that my experience in employment dealing with domestic abuse, plus having many relatives in law enforcement -- including a cousin in Florida who is retired from the FBI and is a PI now -- might give me an advantage.

From link:
"The FBI and NPPD were informed last night of Brians parents intentions and they met Chris and Roberta there this morning. After a brief search off a trail that Brian frequented some articles belonging to Brian were found. As of now law enforcement is conducting a more thorough investigation of that area.

(9,888 posts)Hes just not that nefarious. Hes a dope. He kills her in Wyoming, freaks out and drives home. He realizes hes in way over his head so he goes to his favorite spot and takes the only way out. Hes been dead the entire time hes been missing.
H2O Man
(73,528 posts)did say they found a notebook that belonged to Brian. He did not say it was intact, or make any other comment on its condition. That might well depend upon if the backpack was water-proof.
It is a weird case, indeed. However, one thing that seems clear is that Brian was not very intelligent when it came to planning a crime or a get-away. He seems to have been impulsive. Yet I'm not comfortable saying his strangling Gabby was in "the heat of passion." Domestic abuse appears to have been a pattern of behavior for him, and he definitely had time to come to his senses in the time he was choking her. From the police film of the incident out west, it seems very, very likely that he had choked her before this. Both he and Gabby said that he had grabbed her by the chin, and the most common response for those previously choked is to tuck their chin, to protect their neck.

(5,969 posts)Maybe he killed himself after taking another life.
And had his parents been responsible members of society and took better care instead of only trying to avoid consequences, their son might be in jail but still alive today.

(3,625 posts)I suspect he was trying to cross the then shallowly submerged swamp to throw off pursuit, possibly at night, and the gator got him. If it was a medium sized gator in the 6 to 8 foot range it might not have been able to finish him off, but would have been able to drag him under and kill him and then dine at leisure. I don't see him finding a stranger and setting this up. He most likely killed Petito without planning it in a fit of rage. I also don't think someone like that would have thought of leaving his pack or notebook behind; the notebook was likely filled with dangerous secrets (and might still be if it was in a plastic bag) and the pack contained possessions he might need to continue his flight. I suspect we will know a lot more in a few days.

(3,625 posts)We had a guy killed after hurricane Ida hit in Slidell by a gator, but it was a very large >12ft monster and it did completely consume him, they had to figure out what happened by finding and killing the gator and cutting it open to find what was left of him. He could also have simply tripped on a submerged object and drowned, or been attacked while flailing in a moment of weakness. We probably won't ever know the exact COD, but we probably will find out whether he was preyed upon and possibly by what.
