Republican Senator Bill Cassidy finally said something few dare to say aloud: some of the people who run American government may be too old for the job.
They say wisdom comes with age. Yet so few of the nations leaders seem to have the wisdom to know when its time to call it a day.

Some 30 states have age-based drivers license renewal requirements, including many that require seniors over 70 to take extra tests or apply in person to keep them. That standard that would apply to nearly 30% of the U.S. Senate. Except you dont have to prove your mental acuity to continue driving the country.

(792 posts)We also already have the 25th amendment for this sort of situation at the executive level, where it's most critical.
"Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President."

(43,126 posts)but age 35 ought to be a minimum. What do you know of the world at 25 or 30? The Mayor Pete's are few, more often in young folks you get ideologues, partisan hatchet men trying to impress their seniors. And judges should be 50 or more and yes retire by 80. Enough is enough.

(2,343 posts)Too many politicians hold on way past their prime. In the corporate world, they rarely if ever let you stay past around 62. Sumner Redstone, being the exception. But, he owned the company!

(9,291 posts)because too many voters just pick a team and vote. They have no idea who they are voting for. Until we are more engaged in the process, I would like this protection.
