(53,267 posts)say I'm going out for a beer with "the boys" or "the guys". A lot depends on context and intent. Meanwhile, we cannot please everyone, all the time. Personally, I am not about to tell other people what words they should or shouldn't use. It has a way of shutting down any meaningful conversation.

(2,060 posts)I was a waitress a lifetime ago. I greeted tables, asking how you guys were today. One woman sharply spoke up and corrected me as to ghee gender!!!!
PatSeg
(53,267 posts)It would seem that no matter what one says, someone is bound to take offense.
Meanwhile, "you guys" has not been a gender specific phrase for decades.

(53,267 posts)When we refer to our friends or acquaintances as "girls", it is more about camaraderie and is not meant to be demeaning or insulting.
Kittens? How old are they?

As a woman who has been dressing for the office since the late 80s it says something to me that they dont look like theyre wearing a uniform. They have individuality I guess.

(103,415 posts)Redheads have a serious color issue with certain shades. Everyone has a tone that works for them, she seems to have a good sense about that or a great fashion consultant (which I would most certainly need).

(81,897 posts)And it is so easy to look like Casper the ghost or just a kid.
And then a lot of colors are not flattering or outright clash with the hair.
Early on Jen wore some colors that did not do her any favors on camera.
But she probably got a stylist because she has been making much better fashion choices.
You can see in this picture her dress looks recently hemmed without being pressed, so I assume her stylist did that last minute to make sure the dress length went with the boots. I probably would have worn heels with this dress, but since she is usually on camera only from the waist up, maybe the stylist doesn't worry about shoes.

(25,215 posts)Go with purples that lean towards the blue cool side of the spectrum. Avoid the purples that lean towards the red warm side of the spectrum.
Ooooo wait a minute. I see a touch of symbolism in that.
But no. Seriously. Blue tone purples work great for me (typical pale skin-green/hazel-freckled ginger here) and red tone purples make me look like I'm about to puke.

I need warm tones to look like I still have a heart beat.
So if I go with the warm tones, I will be OK.
My skin is very pale with gold/pink undertones....
I am classified as a Spring if you are familiar with that schemata.
You sound more like a Summer with blue undertones...
soldierant
(9,362 posts)lean to periwinkle, wich is quite blue with only a lhint of red.
I am a Summer and would look terrible as a redhead no matter what I were to wear. Very fair, purple undertones, blonde (now silver) hair, blue (actually more gray than blue but my Dad wanted a girl with blue eyes, so that's what I was always told I had) eyes.
The ones with straight blue undertones are usually Winters, but there is a little overlap.
Irish_Dem
(81,897 posts)It needs to be a warm periwinkle with some gold or pink in it...
The key is that the color has to be warm, not cool.
Oh I have always been jealous of summers, their colors are classic and readily available...
You can wear blues...... and the blond hair/ blue eyes is such a classic American beauty.
soldierant
(9,362 posts)that peach and camel are also pretty classic colors.
My mother (who died in 2000) was a spring, and once we ficured that out, I used to love picking colors and knitting fr her.
Irish_Dem
(81,897 posts)I love being a spring, and love the colors.
That is so neat that your mom was a spring. That is great you made clothing for her.
Because the colors are hard to find usually.

I'll wager a bet that a picture like this just irritates the hell out of GOP men (and some women too, but mostly the men).
