CA teacher placed on leave, video shows her imitating Native American dance, wearing headdress

A Southern California high school teacher has been placed on leave after a viral video posted Wednesday showed her wearing a fake Native American headdress while chanting and dancing.

The footage showed the teacher at John W. North High School in Riverside Unified School District donning a fake feather headdress while chanting "SOH-CAH-TOA," a mnemonic for remembering a trigonometry principle. The teacher's name has not been revealed.

I remember the 70's when teachers were people, and every period you got a new character. That was teaching. She doesn't deserve being removed. That's BS.

And I don't know how any teacher goes to work now that everything they say and do is being broadcast.

You need context, and a short video never gives you that. This might be a teacher who helps girls overcome math fear, or boys writing hesitancy. The students won't learn much if the teachers have to live in fear all day for 35 years.

And she is right about that. I don't agree with here on this instance but the larger point is spot on

nor fake "war paint and feather headdresses" which ridicule Native Americans.

Racism is not to be tolerated and I'm disappointed that your views are still from racist past.

Which is what I'd say about roughly 50% of what people flip out about and insist must be 'racism'.

But that's just me.

That being said ... it's pretty damn poor judgement in this day and age, no matter what was in her heart.

You don't disrespect Native Americans like this.

This is the equivalent of doing a blackface minstrel skit.

Sad!
