(435 posts)1. Yes, You can sue anybody or corporation for any reason.
If that lawsuit was successful would depend solely on what the law is.

(129,730 posts)2. They could try it but the lawsuit probably wouldn't be successful.
They'd have to prove by a preponderance of the evidence that Fox's bad information was a proximate cause of the death of the family member, which means there couldn't be an intervening or superseding cause - that is, that they relied on bad information from some other source, not Fox. They'd also have to establish a legal duty to that individual and not just the general public. It would be very difficult to convince a jury of this, since there's so much bad information coming from so many different sources. And there are also First Amendment issues.
