Earth Day was supposed to be a sea change, right? Kent State stole the headlines (maybe rightfully so), and despite an annual reminder the Earth never could compete with economic growth.

Or entertainment. Compare the number of responses on this thread with those about Alec Baldwin or Trump.

Aware Democrats trying to enact climate legislation then that could make big change simpy didn't have a concerned majority to support it. Republicans rallied passionately against our efforts, while most on the left waited for disasters to start making them care. Even so, we had some big successes, just not nearly enough.

Biden was notably always a warrior in congress for environmental issues, greatly valued by environmental groups. But otherwise, in those days that and a $20 would buy lunch for him and his field crew but not get more than a handful of votes each election.

As for the zealots, Sunrise's self-defeating notion that Democrats are a big part of the problem they have to destroy isn't anything new. Those prone to extremism are doomed to spend their lives never understanding reality (and aren't they all over these days)! But some of these young people will wise up and move on to where their efforts can help. Itm, as usual the RW will try to use their misdirected efforts to destroy belief in Democrats and what we're trying to do.

But who knows, there is real concern today. So maybe the attention to this little bit of extreme behavior will draw a little media attention to the huge climate action initiatives in our infrastructure bills. Watch the media coverage to see, but don't hold your breath. And maybe next November a some more young people will actually, you know, vote. Democrat, not against us. As if they think their futures depend on it.

But they've consistently been demonized by the right and the media has mostly mocked or trivialized their concerns. It's pretty disgusting ... and here we are.

and making some serious talk about our consumer culture, when have Democrats done really substantial work to ameliorate climate damage? I mean, to the detriment of economic growth - which is what’s got to happen.
