Attention New York voters!

There are 4 statewide ballot propositions on this year's ballot, and one for residents of New York City. Please familiarize yourself with them so you'll be prepared when you vote. The republicans in New York would love it if you're not familiar with them, and neglected to vote for any of them on November 2.

Ballot Proposal 1:
FORM OF SUBMISSION OF PROPOSAL NUMBER ONE, AN AMENDMENT
Amending the Apportionment and Redistricting Process
This proposed constitutional amendment would freeze the number of state senators at 63, amend the process for the counting of the state’s population, delete certain provisions that violate the United States Constitution, repeal and amend certain requirements for the appointment of the co-executive directors of the redistricting commission and amend the manner of drawing district lines for congressional and state legislative offices. Shall the proposed amendment be approved?
In my opinion, and this is my opinion only, I would vote YES! Conservatives want you to vote 'no', so they can control their gerrymandering of election districts. Again, vote YES on proposition one.

Ballot Proposal 2:
FORM OF SUBMISSION OF PROPOSAL NUMBER TWO, AN AMENDMENT
Right to Clean Air, Clean Water, and a Healthful Environment
The proposed amendment to Article I of the New York Constitution would establish the right of each person to clean air and water and a healthful environment. Shall the proposed amendment be approved?
This one is pretty self-explanatory. VOTE YES! We all want and deserve clean and and water, right? VOTE YES on proposition two.

Ballot Proposal 3:
FORM OF SUBMISSION OF PROPOSAL NUMBER THREE, AN AMENDMENT
Eliminating Ten-Day-Advance Voter Registration Requirement
The proposed amendment would delete the current requirement in Article II, § 5 that a citizen be registered to vote at least ten days before an election and would allow the Legislature to enact laws permitting a citizen to register to vote less than ten days before the election. Shall the proposed amendment be approved?
VOTE YES on proposition three. Republicans don't want you to be able to register to vote at all, but they certainly don't want you to register to vote within 10 days of any election. The more citizens exercising their right to vote, the better, whenever they happen to register. VOTE YES on proposition three.

Ballot Proposal 4:
FORM OF SUBMISSION OF PROPOSAL NUMBER FOUR, AN AMENDMENT
Authorizing No-Excuse Absentee Ballot Voting
The proposed amendment would delete from the current provision on absentee ballots the requirement that an absentee voter must be unable to appear at the polls by reason of absence from the county or illness or physical disability. Shall the proposed amendment be approved? VOTE YES on proposition four. You should be able to cast your ballot by absentee ballot whenever you want, especially during a pandemic. This pisses republicans off. COVID is a hoax, right? They don't want you to vote absentee for any other reason, but it should be your right to vote absentee for any reason!

There is a Ballot Proposal 5, that DUer 'Princess Turnadot' has brought to my attention (thank you, Princcess!). I believe only those living in the five boroughs of New York City can vote on this proposal, but we should all familiarize ourselves with it nonetheless.

Proposition 5:
Citizens Union recommends a yes vote on Question 5, which would increase the New York City Civil Court’s jurisdiction, allowing it to hear and decide claims for up to $50,000, instead of the current jurisdictional limit of $25,000. The jurisdictional limit of the New York City Civil Court was last raised in 1983, when a constitutional amendment changed it from $10,000 to $25,000 to adjust for inflation and reduce the backlog of the State Supreme Court.

Back in the early 1980's, I was selected for a NYS Supreme Court Jury for a suit that had been in the system for 10 years. It involved a shopper, his blind relative, a grocery store, a frozen food distributor and two trucking companies, and the related insurance companies, and concerned a can of frozen OJ concentrate. By the 3rd day of just hanging around waiting for a judge to be assigned, we were ready to convict the parties in the case of a crime (if we could have). Then they called us in, thanked us for doing our civic duty, and then announced that they had reached a settlement - of $1,500.
Again, VOTE YES FOR THIS PROPOSITION AS WELL.

In conclusion, New York voters, we should vote YES on all five ballot propositions, if for no other reason than to piss the state's republicans off. Thank you.

I'm going to re-post this at different times throughout the day, and again a few days before election day for ultimate visibility.

Most of them are straightforward, but I wouldn't want to wait until I get into the voting booth to try to figure out #1! I read up on that one at length, and still don't entirely understand all of it, but what I read said explained why Democrats are in favor of it and Republicans are not. And it did sound like it would streamline the process, which makes sense to me...

And who would vote against #2??!

Thanks for posting, great idea since we need to be prepared before we step into the booth!

except one of my fascist ex-cop neighbors has a big sign in his front yard to "VOTE NO ON PROPS 1, 3, 4". Like you said, Rhiannon, even they aren't against #2. The sign was paid for by the "Conservative New York something or other".
I did a little research to find out why the fascists wanted everyone to vote NO on these, and this is what I found.

I would never have known about them without my fascist ex-cop neighbor's interest in preventing people from voting. I guess I owe him some gratitude, but since no one in the neighborhood talks to him I'll let it slide.

And, as we know, voter participation increase the odds in our favor. Voters may choose to vote absentee for any number of reasons - including choosing to remain home during the pandemic - and shouldn't have to qualify to receive an absentee ballot. I actually thought of requesting one so I had more time to to peruse the propositions, LOL. But, of course, I didn't have any other excuse.

BTW, I've been warning others that we're facing a number of propositions so they aren't blindsided when they're confronted with them when they walk into the booth. Especially #1!

The republicans are making a huge effort to get everyone to vote NO, and I haven't seen a single Democratic ad anywhere.

We have to get this out there to as many people as possible. I know we can always rely on you, Rhiannon.

I can't imagine stepping into the voting booth and getting confronted with all that, too many people would be tempted to just overlook it. I had to do some research just on #1, that's why I'm warning people to be prepared. And if they don't want to bother to look into it, I'm telling them just to vote "yes!"

I sent the link to everyone on my email list (I don't "tweet" and I hate Facebook) but include the Cliff's notes version and a "Just vote YES on all of them" message. Then I asked them to send it along to others not on my list. By doing this I hope to reach tens of people and counter the republicans efforts.

Hang in there. You take are of your wonderful self.

...on advice of CITIZEN'S UNION. It makes redistricting MORE partisan, by not requiring at least one vote of a minority Party member on the Independent Redistricting Committee. And FWIW there are no conservatives "controlling" redistricting in NYS.
