As the House investigation into the Jan. 6 attack heats up, some of the planners of the pro-Trump rallies that took place in Washington, D.C., have begun communicating with congressional investigators and sharing new information about what happened when the former presidents supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol. Two of these people have spoken to Rolling Stone extensively in recent weeks and detailed explosive allegations that multiple members of Congress were intimately involved in planning both Trumps efforts to overturn his election loss and the Jan. 6 events that turned violent.
Rolling Stone separately confirmed a third person involved in the main Jan. 6 rally in D.C. has communicated with the committee. This is the first report that the committee is hearing major new allegations from potential cooperating witnesses. While there have been prior indications that members of Congress were involved, this is also the first account detailing their purported role and its scope. The two sources also claim they interacted with members of Trumps team, including former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, who they describe as having had an opportunity to prevent the violence.
The two sources, both of whom have been granted anonymity due to the ongoing investigation, describe participating in dozens of planning briefings ahead of that day when Trump supporters broke into the Capitol as his election loss to President Joe Biden was being certified.
I remember Marjorie Taylor Greene specifically, the organizer says. I remember talking to probably close to a dozen other members at one point or another or their staffs.

(54,770 posts)Planning the march on Washington that was common knowledge in mid-December is not likely to get anyone charged, without a direct connection to breaching the Capitol.
Hope they find that connection.

It's the first time that Americans have heard about a member of Congress being officially tied to the events that unfolded that day.

(21,377 posts)Garland should appoint 100 FBI agents on the case. The DOJ has more clout than the select committee. Why should the DOJ have to wait for referrals from the select committee, it should be investigating on its own. People will go to court to avoid a subpoena from the select committee but those same people can't refuse to go before a grand jury.

Here's video of Marjorie Taylor Greene at the White House in late Dec 2020 saying she had a "great planning session for our January 6th objection. We aren't going to let this election be stolen by Joe Biden and the Democrats. President Trump won by a landslide." Expel Greene now.

She did another video on the 5th in front of the Capitol, but I'm too lazy to find it...

(17,173 posts)"The barricades were stormed minutes before the former president concluded his remarks."
When I watched 'Four Hours at the Capitol", it was clear there was an early wave of insurgent thugs entering the Capitol, bolstered by the arrival of the jolly rally-goers after TFG had finished speaking.
There is one scene during the second wave - packages of bottled water set out behind the police front. The thugs overpowered the police and helped themselves to water as they moved to the Capitol. Were these bottles placed for the police? My impression was the insurgents expected them, casually helped themselves and continued there insurrection.
